Wthunter11 Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 Drove 20 hours last fall and fished Champlain for the first time. We had a great trip and caught lots of smallmouth. We are looking at coming back up around June probably the first week. Any info on how the bass will be as far as spawning both largemouth and smallmouth. We will be staying around Pointe Au Roche. How is the weather this time of year. We had some extremely windy days in the fall which i know is typical. Thank you for any info. Quote
Super User webertime Posted December 31, 2019 Super User Posted December 31, 2019 Wind is always something to deal with up here. June is still spawn for sm (full moons). LM will will be spawing too but further along. We could have any sort of water conditions though. If we get a ton of snow and flood, June will have the spawn delayed a bit. But if our current weather pattern continues we'll be low and the spawn will be slightly further along when you're here. Message me when you get closer to coming up. You staying at Marine Village? Wthunter11 Posted January 3, 2020 Author Posted January 3, 2020 Yes we are staying at marine village again. Booked the room today for May 31st-june 7th (May stay longer). We primarily fished in the inland sea last fall targeting 15-25 foot range and where very successful. If they haven’t started spawning when we come will they be up shallower by then. Quote
Super User webertime Posted January 3, 2020 Super User Posted January 3, 2020 Oh the first wave will be spawning and second will be up chewing for sure. Quote

I live in Alabama so going to assume that it’s like our early spawn as far as baits. Reaction style with probably more of a jerkbait option? When we came in the fall it was alittle bit of a spinnerbait bite but mainly Ned rig in 15-20 foot of water. Just want to make sure we bring enough stuff with us. Thanks for your help. Quote
billmac Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 The first week in June is before bass season both in NY and Vermont. Just FYI Some states prohibit targeting fish out of season. Not sure if that applies to NY or Vermont. 1 Quote

And I believe no live bait as well, but that might be MA I spend a few nights during a heat wave at the Button Bay VT state campground in early August last year. The last night, the heat broke and it was a field day, my youngest son and I were catching 3lb+ smallies every cast fishing from the point which is a half mile walk from the pool in the state park. That bay is noted for a good smallie spot, so that's something to consider hitting up if you return this year. Quote

Patrick Reif Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 bucket list destination for sure Quote
DanielG Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 We camped at lake Champlain state park last year. From Maine so no license but I watched an older gentleman jig a little plastic over and over off the dock and pull up mid sized bass each time. Jokingly I asked him, "do you get a fish every time you put your line in the water?" He said, "Pretty much." Quote
