Hey fellas, I’ve been on the search for a rod to throw my ShellCracker, 7” Slammer, and S Wavers on.

I’ve enjoyed throwing these in the past on moderate action 7’9 rod rated for up to 2 ounces. This rod fell victim to a break during my recent move.

Between the crank launcher and jr swim can anyone provide me some insight?

Can't help you with either of those (I notice the Crank Launcher is rated up to 1.5 oz).

You may wanna check out the Falcon Lowrider (7'9" heavy/moderate). It retails for $129.99 and rated up to 2 oz.

I have the Irods jr swimbait rod and it will throw swavers very easily.  It is a very light, well balanced rod.  However, it is rated as moderate-fast but I find it leans more fast than moderate.

I also have a 13Fishing Defy crankbait rod I gave a whopping $59 for and its a fantastic crank rod-nice and bendy.  Liked it so much I bought two!  Its rated up to 2oz and I throw 6th Sense's 1 3/4 magmum squarebill among others on it.

That is one other I had been looking at, I haven’t held any IRods, but I was hoping the launcher might be able to handle lures around that 1.5 mark.

Thanks for the input! I’m always a fan of saving money. I might have to look into that Defy rod.

I just picked up my first iRod. Haven’t fished it, but I’ve pitched it around my yard/kitchen. I found the weight rating on it to be spot on, so I’d probably bump it up to the Jr Swim, in case you wanna throw stuff a little heavier.

IMHO, the Irod Genesis is a great rod for the $$$, the 738sb for me has great action tossing 2 to 2.5 oz baits. Plus the rod is so light and well balanced.

The Irod Swimbait Jr is a better choice then Crank Launcher IMO. I use Irod IRG754F for  Black Dog Shellcracker G2 and R2Sea 168 S-Wavers. You need a Heavy Swimbait  rod like Dobyns FR 806 or Irod Heavy 8' Swimbait for wooden BD Shellcracker or R2Sea 200 S-Waver.

Thanks Tom. I really want to try and IRod rod, for whatever reason I really value that moderate action over anything with my Shellcracker g2 and slammer which I throw the g2 much much more often. I’m afraid if I steer away from the crank launcher in the IRod series I won’t find the moderate action I’m looking for.

I just listed a rod in the classifieds that I've thrown all of those exact baits on. It handles them all very, very well.
