Steez or Avid X

A custom build on an NFC MB807 is perfect for rigs

Since you’re into st croix check out the legend extreme lxc711hmf, great for c-rigging and a whole lot more, very versatile rod.

That guy is super heavy and 6.6 ounces.

I absolutely love my ALX Zolo Dragger for Carolina rigs, and dragging Jointed Structure Heads along the bottom.

I’m a former St. Croix fan-boy and still have a couple Mediums and Medium-Light rods.  They manufacture a quality rod.  But when you get into their MH and Heavy rods they are heavy, thick, tip-heavy, etc.  Similar priced rods in ALX, Kistler, Orochi, Daiwa.... I find lighter, better balanced and just as powerful.

But the Dragger is an excellent CR rod.  If you need something even heavier than that check out the Brawler.  Both rods weigh quite a bit less than the St. Croix options..

How big of Carolina rigs do you plan to throw? What budget do you have in mind?

I typically stay with Shimano, G Loomis, Daiwa, St Croix, Megabass. Not a fan of ALX

I dont have any budget restrictions, yes the ALX rods are not for me, ugly design and I dont like how they fish, I've played with a few.

The weights I use are up to 1 ounce tungsten but mostly 3/4.

Lures are no heavier than a 6 inch senko.

These are the brands I will not consider

ALX

Lews

13 fishing

Phoenix

Powell

Quantum

Abu

Berkley

I would suggest the NRX 873, Expride 7'6 H, Megabass Destroyer Valdivia, Steez AGS 7'6.

I'll look into the megabass and the steez, not a fan of the NRX build quality, awesome blank factory second build quality, which made me sell mine the ones I had.

I would take a good look at the Expride. Its a sweet rod. One of my favorite for sure.

I couldn't put a daiwa on a shimano rod its sacrilegious, that's another reason I got rid of my NRX rods, I converted to Daiwa.

The Steez I'll look into.

Just another use for my Gloomis MBR rods.

I agree the Loomis MBR series is a versatile choice if your limited on rods or lures for one reason or another.

They are similar to multi purpose surface cleaners, they get the job done and dont take up a lot of room by having a cleaning product for every application, the only problem is they are not the best choice for most applications, but they work if good enough is acceptable.

Rods for specific applications fits my fishing style better, after all sometimes it comes down to the details.
