Curlyfishin Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 I need people to give me their opinions on these two kayaks to see which one I should get. Right now I am 5’10” about 210 pounds and I want to be able to stand in the kayak without feeling like I will tip it over. My budget is 1000$ Quote
Andrew917 Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 I have the Cabelas branded version of the big fish 120 and love it but I’m planning on getting a pedal drive this season Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 3, 2020 Super User Posted January 3, 2020 Find a place you can paddle them both or some other options and go from there. What you can stand in and what others can stand in are vastly different. I am 5'11 195 and could stand in my tarpon and fish but i know others couldn't. Also standing isn't as much of a big deal as it used ot be before the advent of raised seats. 1 Quote
HookInMouth Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 ^^^ Right. I've come to know that even the most stable kayak can be problematic to some people when standing. Balance is a huge deal. Some people can do it all day in a regular kayak and some will struggle in a Frontier 12. And there's a difference between standing up in one and fishing from one. Quote
Hook2Jaw Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 Gun on me and without demoing, I would go with the Bonafide, and I'm not even a fan of those boats. Quote
Smalls Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 I fish out of a BF105. It’s beyond stable. Could probably do backflips on it. But it’s a barge to paddle. The tracks are also goofy, and you either have to buy the expensive adapters, or DIY something up. It’s been good to me, but I’ll definitely be upgrading after this season, and if I did it all over, I’d probably have gone with the Bonafide. I think they have a better “floor plan”, more storage, and easier to customize/ modify. Quote
SuperDuty Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 You should really check out the new Vibe Shearwater 125. It's due out this spring and has a ton of versatility. You can preorder it for $1200. What's nice about this kayak is it's very modular, you can buy just the basic kayak now and then later buy the peddle kit for it which is the older hobie drive system, or you can buy the Bixby motor kit. Both are designed to fit right into the motor slot in front of the seat. It also has a removable pod in front of the motor slot so you can add a fish finder or whatever. I think this kayak is gonna be the new hottest one out there. I've spent the last year researching kayaks and had my mind made up on the bonafide ss127 and then this one came out and I GOTTA have it.
