DropShotHotShot Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 I have an 07' lund mr. Pike 17 with a 115 on the back, I want to put talons on but afraid of the extra weight being too much. Any others put them on a similar boat? Also, what is the best mounting method? Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted December 29, 2019 Super User Posted December 29, 2019 I had power poles on my boat. I didn’t use them often. When I got a trolling motor with spot lock I quit using them. I tool them off and sold them. When I shipped them to a buyer the weight was 84#. Can your boat take that much weight in tne stern? Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 29, 2019 Super User Posted December 29, 2019 The mounting is usually on a jack plate that adds more weight. If you use your live well water is 8 lbs per gallon, 15 gal = 120 lbs. batteries about 60 lbs each, etc. Tom Quote
Super User slonezp Posted December 29, 2019 Super User Posted December 29, 2019 As far as weight, I believe your Mr. Pike is rated for 150hp. The weight of your 115 2 stroke is going to be roughly 50lbs less than a 150 2 stroke and 200lbs less than a 115-150hp 4 stroke (Which brings up an interesting question if you wanted to repower with a current model 4 stroke.) Personally, I'd go straight thru the transom adding a tilt bracket if you need clearance for a garage or any low clearance bridges. It's how I did my 20 foot Lund. 1 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted December 29, 2019 Super User Posted December 29, 2019 ^^^^^This And You can balance your boat with where you store your gear. Many will say that spotlock will replace a pole, but it doesn't especially in no wind situations 1 Quote

I don't know if any 17' aluminum boat rated for 150 hp? Lund Pike is shown as a 16' and 18' models the 18' rated to 100 hp. 17' Lund Pike? Please clarify Tom PS, further search I found the 2007 17' Mr. Pike specs and it's rated for 140 hp Merc. Quote
DropShotHotShot Posted December 30, 2019 Author Posted December 30, 2019 Thanks for the replies and research, I do want a pole anchor just spot lock as I guide kids a lot and would like to stay in place along pads without any movement. I rarely fill the livewell so I guess that is probably pretty comparable (dry livewell w/ talons roughly equals full livewell no talons) Quote
