Super User Koz Posted December 29, 2019 Super User Posted December 29, 2019 I took my son up to Table Rock State Park (SC) today and I bank fished at Lake Oolenoy for a bit. I have a great Plano backpack that carries five boxes and one of the boxes is on an outside pouch. Unfortunately, the snaps to that pouch broke off at some point over the last year. Anyway, there was nothing biting at Oolenoy so we took a ride up to Jocasee hoping we could find a decent spot to fish from the bank at Devil's Fork State Park and see if the smallmouth bass were biting. Well, we pulled into the parking lot and I noticed my backpack was light. Sure enough, the tray that is normally in that outside pouch was gone. I was ticked off to say the least. We had left Oolenoy hours before and figured that box would have been long gone so we headed home. That outside box was my "go to" box with my favorite chatterbaits and jigs. What a dumb thing to do. At least I got to spend quality time with my son and a decent picture while we were out. Quote

Super User N Florida Mike Posted December 29, 2019 Super User Posted December 29, 2019 Sorry for your loss but it was a win because of time spent with your son. Thats such a beautiful area. Always feel drawn to upstate SC . Quote
The Bassman Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 I carry stuff in my pockets most of the time since I fish on foot. Can't remember how many times things have come up missing. Quote
DanielG Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 I always tell the kids when they have something like this happen. "No one is sick and we're all together". Put in that perspective, the stuff is replaceable. It's the non replaceable things that happen in life that are important. And we learn from it. My life is replete with stuff like this. Quote
tander Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Hate this happen to you but now you can do the next best thing to fishing, buy more "stuff". ? Quote
fin Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 I once left my backpack, full of fishing gear, at a popular bank-fishing spot. I went home and mowed the grass, and when I went to get my gear out of my car, I realized I had left my backpack at the lake. Fortunately the lake is only a few miles away. I drove crazy back down there, trying to take a mental inventory of all the gear I had probably lost forever. I got there and there was a guy fishing right next to my backpack, but all my stuff was still there. I was really surprised and really happy. 5 Quote
zeth Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 I feel your pain. Left a 3700 deep full to the brim of jdm lipless baits on my bumper. drove off. by the time i realized it it was too late. i drove around all day for hours hoping that it was laying on the side of the road somewhere. Quote

It was about 45 minutes away from where we were when I realized what happened and about 3 hours after we left the first lake. There were 7 or 8 jigs and 3 chatterbaits in the box so it wasn't too big a loss. A few years ago my son left his spinning rod at a lagoon when he got distracted by one of his friends joining us. When we realized what happened and went back it was long gone. Now I can't hold that over his head anymore! 1 Quote

Sounds like it could be much worse -- like if someone jacked your entire backpack for example. Quote
Super User Bird Posted December 30, 2019 Super User Posted December 30, 2019 Inconvenient but small replaceable items that you'll likely restock in short order. Went fishing with a friend who left brand new 55lb minkota and interstate deep cycle battery at the boat ramp. We only drove a mile before we realized our blunder.......everything was gone. Oh, fantastic pic. 2 Quote
