Dylan Degenhardt Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 (edited) I’m interested in bank fishing a boat ramp for largemouth bass (45 degree water temp.) My rod arsenal can handle any lures. Just need some of the best for Fishing it in the winter. Thanks for the help. Edited December 28, 2019 by Dylan Degenhardt 1 Quote
BassCats Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 Small worms and jigs work really well around boat ramps. Since fishing from shore I don’t recommend any tungsten. Quote
Dylan Degenhardt Posted December 28, 2019 Author Posted December 28, 2019 Interested to see what y’all thoughts are on Crankbaits or bass Fishing Lure for largemouth bass on a boat ramp. The water temps where I am are about 48 degrees(Texas). My rod arsenal can handle any Lure. Just wanted a few opinion. Thanks for the input. Please provide specifications for lure Quote
JediAmoeba Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 From shore? If yes, outside of squarebills, crankbaits don't work the best from shore due to their design. They work much better casting into shore out in the water. For a shallow squarebill usually cast parallel to shore and retrieve. Quote
Dylan Degenhardt Posted December 28, 2019 Author Posted December 28, 2019 Yes. From shore. What type of shallow Squarebill would you suggest? Quote
reelfast Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 Ned rig and fish it really slow. When the water is cold like that it is one of the only things I can get bit on. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 28, 2019 Super User Posted December 28, 2019 For me a swimbait like a 8" Hudd. For a normal person a T-rigged worm or jig. Tom Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted December 28, 2019 Super User Posted December 28, 2019 Don't really know how many bass would be under docks in that water temperature. Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted December 28, 2019 Super User Posted December 28, 2019 You can definitely use deeper diving cranks from shore. Especially if you want the bottom digging in/bouncing off the bottom. There are tons of cranks/squarebills out there. Strike King, 6th Sense, Lucky Craft are some of the favorites. For squarebills, the KVD 1.5 is quite popular. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Strike_King_KVD_HC_Square_Bill_Silent_Crankbait/descpage-SKKVDHC.html Quote
Super User scaleface Posted December 28, 2019 Super User Posted December 28, 2019 Lipless sinking crankbait . Let it sink to the bottom then follow the contour uphill . Quote
Smokinal Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 I inch along a Zman TRD Crawz in green pumpkin on a 1/10 oz Ned head Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 29, 2019 Super User Posted December 29, 2019 Boat launching ramps provide 3 underwater edges for crawdads to hide. The flat surface is hard making a good hunting place for bass. Docks are usually next to a ramp providing shelter for a vast number of aquatic critters that attract fish of all types and prey for bass. Where I fish the DFW uses ramps to stock trout and the bass hang waiting. Ramps are usually located near deep water access in wind protected areas. Boaters tend to release fish caught and any live bait that become food for crawdads and bass. Think what is below the water line and why bass use ramps and marinas year around and then select your lures. Tom 1 Quote
