Hi, I am looking for a new rod to double as my jig (3/8oz to 3/4oz) & pitch soft plastics rod AS WELL as my hollow body frog rod. I was originally looking at their Sierra line and the 735C but now I think my budget would allow me to jump up to their nicer Champion line. Should I look at a Champion 735C too or would you recommend a different model?

I guess I should ask what characteristic would you look for in a frog rod and how would it differ from a jig rod? Or do they pretty much share the same characteristics where this is a good idea? Maybe in a perfect world I would have a rod to each presentation but due to budget I would REALLY like one rod to handle both of these presentations.

The Champion 735 as mentioned. If your budget is limited the 735 in the Fury and or Sierra series.  For jigs you want great balance due to it being a tip up technique.  You also want a blank that locks up pretty quick to drive those beefier hooks home from a distance.  You still want enough tip to load and cast well.  The 735 provides those attributes.  Balance, Power and Tip. Happy shopping !

I have one last question before I were to buy this Champion DC 735C as my jig/frog rod. I have a Champion DC 734C and it is pretty well accepted that it is the most versitle rod in the lineup. The thing is it is labeled as a heavy and I know I would want more power or more "umph" out of a jig/frog rod than a versatile/universal rod, I would think. The strange thing is the Champion 735C is a MH which in my mind would be a step down in power, obviously. The only other lines he makes a 735C in is the Fury and Sierra line and BOTH are a Mag Heavy, so what gives??? I just wanted to kind of get a little education here and make sure this is the correct rod before I buy it.

I have still been thinking about this and was curious if anyone can give me an answer here. I would expect the Champion 735C to be labeled a Mag Heavy like the 735C in both the Fury and Sierra line so I am just confused. Especially when the Champion 734C I own is considered a Heavy and I would certainly think a frog/jig rod should be stouter than it. I know that powers of rods can run different compared to other brands but this is in the same brand of rods we are talking about here!!!

702c

I just got my 702c. What a great action rod. It has a faster action than I thought it would.

Super light and well balanced. I might not pick up my medium action spinning rod much next season.

Sweet! It's a great rod, I also got mine so I wouldn't have to use spinning gear much. I have a Concept Z on mine and it looks crazy.
