15 rigs,  all straight braid,  and the 16th that's on it's way will be straight braid

Cool! Any tips?

Only you can decide what works for you.

The only advantage braid has IMO is low memory that reduces line twist issues and extremely strong break strength per .001 diameter. Braid floats and that can be good or bad. Braid is very light weight good and bad. Low abrasion resistance bad, cuts through aquatic vegetation good, high modulus with low stretch good and bad. Good knot strength, cuts softer materials like leader line, expensive, color dye can bleed with some brands, severe backlashes, wind knots.

Take your pick.

Tom,

I looked back through and didn’t see where you put what you use. Would you mind sharing your philosophy oh what you use and when? TThanks

I guess I just meant, do you use the same line for all of them? (Same Brand, Color, lb strength,...) Thanks

I run Green powerpro 50# for everything, except my wacky worm stick. It gets Suffix performance in Hi-vis yellow, allows me to detect bites on slack line better.

I carry a small knitting needle to pick out tough backlashes(not my idea, I learned it here).

Lots of line threads to dig through.

Braid I only use 1; Fins 60 lb PRT green.

Monofilament p;

5 lb Maxima Ultra green, finesse spinning, slip shot rig floating line.

7 lb Sunline Sniper, finesse spinning, drop shot sinking line.

10 lb Berkley Big Game, medium diving crank baits, in expensive and respool often.

11 lb Sunline Defier Arimillo, small top water, spy baits, small and medium diving crank baits, structure spoons, small dia line, expensive.

12 lb Berkley Big Game, deep diving crank baits, inexpensive line respool often.

10 lb Sunline sniper, small jigs and T-rigs, deep water, sinking line, small dia.

12 lb Sunline Shooter, jigs and T-rigs in general, sinking line small dia, expensive.

15 lb Big Game night fishing in general, inexpensive great knot strength.

25 on Sunline Defier Armillo, swimbaits in general, expensive small dia line, good casting distance.

I prefer to use smaller diameter line with excellent 100% knot strength and casting performance...not brand dependant but performance based. Not a fan of FC line due to marginal 80% knot strength for all brands. I tie Polamar, San Deigo jam knots most of the time.

I target and catch bass that often exceed the lb test of the line being used with jigs and T-rigs, line performance is a critical link and must have confidence using it.

Well I used straight braid this past weekend on my 110+1 jerkbait and it did pretty well. Then retied halfway through the day with fluoro leader (8ft) and I was amazed...I started getting leaves stuck to the hooks when I retrieved. Pretty sure the fluoro was allowing it to get another foot or two deeper. Caught fish on both though.

How many of you use high-viz braid?

I have some green on a baitcaster and have a hard time seeing it in the water. I have a new spinning reel I'm going to put braid on and was considering going to High-Viz braid unless the collective here says this would be a problem.

I do, yellow.

Really helped with weightless/slack line presentations.

I got no data,  but I do make up statistics....and I say that I use hi viz braid because for every fish my flourescent braid scares off.....I catch three others that I wouldn't have before when I couldn't see my line move.

Years ago, I was watching a show or video of a pro....forget who....I want to say Denny Brauer, but could have just as easily been Bill Dance or Houston or someone else....who said something to the effect of "I WANT the bass to see my line...and follow it right down to my jig"

I've fished down to 4# fluoro and you can see small fish near the surface that can obviously see the line and hang around looking at it.  I just haven't seen anything to make me believe that a bass is less catchable if my jig is on braid vice fluoro.   I could maybe be persuaded that really heavily pressured fish, caught multiple times might learn that visible line is a danger indicator, but I doubt it.

straight braid for everything, except trout.

I used straight braid for years and caught a lot of fish. Now I use FC leaders on my braid and I catch more fish. I have some basic evidence in that if I am catching fish with a leader and my leader gets destroyed, I catch fewer fish when I get lazy and don't put a new leader on. My catches go back up when I get frustrated and put a leader back on.

My waters are also generally clear and super pressured. It could  also be a confidence thing.

Just curious if anyone has switched to straight braid for all appliances with no leader.  I love braid and hate tying leaders and hearing the knot go through the guides. Would love to switch but feel like braid is still too visible, but I don’t have any evidence of this. Anyone try it? And noticeable difference? Thanks

65 lb J-braid for frogging and flipping.  Only techniques I use braid for.  The rest is mono, co-poly, or flouro.

Man, I'm glad my search, "Can you use straight braid to fish?" brought me here. I'm a beginner, well, not quite, I used to love to fish but haven't been fishing in over 30 years. I promised God I would NEVER say, "I don't have time" ever again. Spent a small fortune on all new gear (top-of-the-line, flagship stuff, lol). Didn't know you could spend so much on rods, reels, and even lures (20 bucks for a lure, are you kidding me? lol). Anyway, I thought, "man, I gotta tie leaders?" So, I thought I would check to see if that's absolutely necessary. Glad to find out it is not. Anyway, take care guys and happy fishing. ?

I watched a Roland Martin video recently and he is a proponent of straight braid.

I was out of fishing for about 15 years...joined Bass Resource a few years back...and learned a lot about braid-to-leader.

I started fishing straight braid on all my bait-casters in the 1990's. Still do.

On my spinning rods, I switched from mono last spring. I now fish spinning rods with 10lb PowerPro bright yellow, tied to 8lb fluoro leader. It's been a game changer!

I do the EXACT same thing. Now, one thing Roland does is he gets a black magic marker and colors the last few feet with it. ?

I use high vis yellow band color the last 6 feet black.

Another side benefit of using a leader is that it helps you gauge how deep your lure is at the moment. When you see the knot come to the surface, you know your bait is leader-length deep. It’s been very helpful to me when jigging something like a weightless worm.

I don't know that bass really care about line color.

I ran Fenwick Iron Thread on my bait casters for 10+ years...it would get faded and turn almost white...still caught fish.
