oem rods

Hey guys! 

 

As we all know, most companies (lews, abu garcia, lower end daiwas, okuma, kastking, you name it) with the exeption of shimano and daiwa use rebranded reels as their own. These reels are often made by doyo, banax, dawon or other chinese chop shops. My question is about rods, do we know what companies use certain asian blanks and who are the companies that make most rods? Where are the blanks made? Excluding obviously amercian made rods like gloomis or certain stcroixs and so on. WHERE ARE ALL THESE RODS COMING FROM

I believe LaCroix is US made in their own facility.

Yes St-croix have theur own facility in park falls. Their higher end rods are made there (avids and up), the other rods they have are made in mexico. Im curious where rods like abu garcia, okuma, duckett, fenwick and other big names are made and if its all by the same manifacturer

years ago a someone made a post here about this very topic.  It was one of the best threads I ever read on this site -- in fact I had it bookmarked on my old laptop, until it died.  The member happened to work at Gander Mtn, I believe, and had some behind-the-scenes knowledge of who made what blanks.  Obviously, it would be very outdated by now, but I'm sure much of it would still be relevant.  Try searching for it.  If I happen to find it I'll post a link here.

The same thing occurs with reels outside of shimano and daiwa.  

 

Anyone can fly to china and with enough capital have rods made for them.  Depending on how much you invest determines the quality control, etc.  Its like buying a car from the ground up -I want this blank, these components, this reel seat, etc.

 

It sucks for the companies actually spending time and money to r&d this stuff, put it on the market and then a year later have knock offs competing against them.  The upside is it creates competition and brings the prices down to put decent equipment into fishermen's hands.  

I highly doubt most of this stuff would be legal if made in the U.S.

Premiers are made in Park Falls.

Exactly why id like to shed some light on what companies just use standard components and basic stuff vs others that innovate and create. Fascinating world it is!

Premier line and up are US made.
