I'm thinking of buying a St. Croix 7'6" ml/xf spinning rod. I haven't decided which series yet. I want it to throw 1/16oz with reasonable distance. I wanted to ask you guys about the tip on this length and action. Is it a soft tip? Usually a longer Rod with an XF action the tip will be softer over a longer distant than a rod shorter. Is this the case with this blank? Basically I'm looking for the blank to load a little deeper than a 7' XF. Any other feedback would be appreciated. It doesn't matter which series, from the Bass X to the Legends. Many thanks.

I have a St Croix 7'6" ML/XF in the Legend Tournament line and I like the rod quite a bit. I have been mostly using it for a Ned rig. I also use it for 2.8 inch Keitech swimbaits. I would normally use a 1/8oz and it will toss them really well. I don't think a 1/16 would be much trouble.

The tip is pretty soft and that is why I have been liking it for a Ned rig rod. Moves quite a bit when a fish picks up the bait and has made bite detection by sight pretty easy.

I couldn't tell you that will follow through on all of their rod series though. The Bass X line has seemed to be more stiff and the Eyecons seem to be more whippy. That is just my personal experience with those lines, but not a 7'6" ML/XF specifically.

Great info. Exactly the feedback I was looking for. Thank you.

Hey!

I have a 7'6" legend xtreme Ml Xf and for me its the best drop shot rod ever. The tip does respond very well for working finesse baits but the whole blank loads up nicely when fighting a fish. The extra lentgh make it amazing for vertical hooksets and casts smaller baits a country mile.
