Joe_w1234 Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 I have not caught a fish with a lure with treble hooks besides top water. I just haven’t. (That’s no crank baits, no square bills, no lipless, nothing. When I try, I dint get anything, so that causes me to lose confidence in that sort of thing. Quote

Every single one I touched had play in the head/wire connection. look at the booyah blades, i think they're 5.29 a piece or so at academy. they do absolute work and always run right. white/chart double colorado blade with a white zoom split tail trailer. february-april there are days where it is hard to pick anything else up Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted December 20, 2019 Super User Posted December 20, 2019 I still fish monofilament line, and, I don't like flourocarbon 4 Quote

My wife is indeed correct on her assessment that I have bought hundreds of dollars of fishing lures over the years that have never seen or felt water.... Remember, it's a SECRET just between us... 1 Quote

I can just snap together components and end up with one of equal or better quality for 2.70. Quote
lo n slo Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 i took a dump at the edge of the water while at the boat ramp one morning. it’s not something i’m proud of but i was in a bad way. 3 1 Quote

Minnesota is nice that way - every ramp I've been to has a porta-potty. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 21, 2019 Super User Posted December 21, 2019 I’ve never fished with a Ned rig, and before this year I had never fished with a split shot rig for bass. Quote
Super User whitwolf Posted December 21, 2019 Super User Posted December 21, 2019 Deep dark secret. I have probably 800 crankbaits and while they are great tools and have caught aplenty of bass for me I couldn't care less about throwing them. I am a tackle junky and always buy them but for me it's a mind numbing way to fish. On the other hand though, they look cool hanging in the tackle room. Quote

WI_Angler1989 Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 I have NEVER fished with a baitcaster. I'm not opposed to it, but I love spinning gear. Tools for a job, yadda yadda, but why force it when I have no need? Quote
DanielG Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 Every once and awhile I get out a chatterbait and throw it or troll with it awhile. I never, ever catch anything on it. I just like the idea of it and the vibration on the rod tip.... Quote
rtwvumtneer6 Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 I have 2 wins and 2 lunkers in my brief tournament experience. Even though I rig up a rod for every possible situation (and a few for situations I will never encounter) every penny I've ever won could have been accomplished by taking one rod and a bag of the same bait. 1 Quote

While we talked, he was asking me questions about my baitcasters, and I told him "Honestly, there ain't a thing I can do with these that you can't do with what you've got in your hand right now." I think, in this case, the right tools for the job is whatever tool you're most comfortable and accurate with. 20 minutes ago, DanielG said: Every once and awhile I get out a chatterbait and throw it or troll with it awhile. Super User WRB Posted December 21, 2019 Super User Posted December 21, 2019 I have a collection of lures given as gifts that are still in the original package. I have donated several to charity events but things like Banjo Minnow aren't worth donating IMO. I should list some on the BR Flea Market forum and anyone can have them for the cost of shipping. fin Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Found lure hoarder here. I've got hundreds of lures that I've found. At one time the box on the left was for lures that were not worth keeping, and the box on the right were ones that I might eventually put new hardware on, but the two boxes have gotten mixed up. I've got hundreds of good lures that I never use. There's no reason to keep all these things but I just can't throw them away. 2 Quote

Super User Bird Posted December 22, 2019 Super User Posted December 22, 2019 Most of my plastics are Z-man.......BUT, I'd rather throw my back out than throw a chatterbait bait, feels like my line is hung up in trolling motor. Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted December 22, 2019 Super User Posted December 22, 2019 I'm bumped into a fishing buddy at Field & Stream a while back. He was in one of the lure aisles and his wife was in Dick's looking at clothes. He was plucking baits off the racks and filling his basket as we talked. When she finally met up with us she took one look in his basket and said "why bother with those when you'll just end up catching most of your fish on a Fat IKA". He said that she was right, but bought the baits anyway. Before that story took place I'd spent lots of time throwing the IKA in every way possible. I haven't gotten a sniff, whiff, or a first or second look. I have another friend who also does very well with them. I just don't have that IKA mojo. Quote

Ski213 Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 @galyonj I’m with you on the senko. Not one fish. It’s no doubt on me but still it’s been a shutout with the senko. I know it works awesome for others but not for me. I don’t claim to be a pro fisherman but I’ve been doing it for a long time. It’s one of my three zero confidence lures. Number two is the a rig. I remember when there was talk about banning it. I was amused. If it was never available I would’ve literally had no less fish boated. Again not one fish hooked. It’s a grappling hook, you’d almost think you’d accidentally snag something even if it wasn’t interested. Three is any bass pattern bait. Not one bite. If I didn’t know otherwise I’d swear bass don’t eat other bass. To be clear I know all my three are successful for others. Those are just not in the cards for me. 1 Quote

Hook2Jaw Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 I hear of people who are right handed using left handed casting reels all the time so they use their rod with their strong arm, don't have to switch hands after the cast and all that mess, etc. I cast and hold my reel in my left hand. I shoot left handed. I'm pretty good at doing both of those things and they're the only things I do seamlessly with my left hand. I'm a righty. My mother is a lefty. My guess is when she and dad split, I got sent home with BB guns and fishing rods and reels and she ended up showing me how she used them. 2 Quote
