Frog Turds Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 that what it is with my matts hardgill...i've given it a fair amount of water time throughout the season, various presentations and nada largie yet...i'll throw it again in 2020 but if it turns out its just that bait that doesnt click for me, it'll end up being a purdy wallhanger... I hear that. I will say that I threw an A-Rig the better part of two seasons, trying to force feed it to smallies. Got a lot of great casting practice but that was about it. But once it clicked - it was a Beauuuuuuuuuutiful Thing. Now, I'm semi-addicted to the thing. I'll keep pitching that glide bait around - maybe I can snag a turtle. A-Jay 1 Quote

Yea I haven't had much luck with mine.... Buuuuut the one fish I did get on it was a 5lber so I can't complain too much. Quote

Agree! Green pumpkin is my least favorite color. With all the talk about high priced plastic baits these days, I still catch a lot of bass on the Lucky Strike worms from Wal Mart. They work Quote
Troy85 Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 I'll almost never throw a top water bait for more than 5 casts before giving up on it, unless whoever I'm fishing with is actively catching them on top. Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 20, 2019 Super User Posted December 20, 2019 Crankbaits ? I know they're highly productive, I know who to fish em, caught lots of bass on em. Just don't excite me! 2 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted December 20, 2019 Super User Posted December 20, 2019 I’ll confess it’s not any particular lure or technique... it’s my electronics. I just don’t want or care to spend the time to learn their full capabilities graphing a lot of water. I know I’m missing out, especially as fishing gets tougher. But I’d rather just turn the things on and spend my time fishing, which is why I’m out on the water in the first place..... 1 Quote

Professionally, as a developer, basically I solve puzzles for money. When I think about bass fishing, I think about it the same way. Based on (list of variables), what's gonna get me bit today? And it's endlessly fascinating to me, getting continually beaten by an animal with a brain the size of a pea, that works solely on instinct, that will eat almost anything. Interesting. I’m also a developer (that’s how I know you’re a “nerd”) and I think about fishing in much the same way. There’s the brut force approach where you fish every inch of the lake with every technique and every lure in every color. That’s sure to find them but can take a couple of million years and there’s a chance that conditions might change before we’re done. So we have to find a more efficient search algorithm. It’s very similar to developing software algorithms, just a lot harder. 2 Quote

You can do it, sure, but it's gonna take far longer than anybody's got time for. 1 Quote

The stick bait that's caught gobs and gobs of fish? I have never, ever caught a fish on one. I read the FAQ, watched hours of video about it, all that. Never even got a sniff, as far as I'm aware. Not weighted. Not unweighted. Not wacky. Not Neko. Not ever. I can hook you up with a sure fire wacky senko. The key is going smaller. ? I don't like White lures. It probably comes from fishing so many bodies of water that shad are not the predominant forage. I always have confidence in bluegill and perch colors, but whites freaks me out. Quote
