I hear of people who are right handed using left handed casting reels all the time so they use their rod with their strong arm, don't have to switch hands after the cast and all that mess, etc.

I cast and hold my reel in my left hand.  I shoot left handed.  I'm pretty good at doing both of those things and they're the only things I do seamlessly with my left hand.

I'm a righty.  My mother is a lefty.  My guess is when she and dad split, I got sent home with BB guns and fishing rods and reels and she ended up showing me how she used them.

"et tu brute?"

Same here - righty for everything...except casting. Cast with the left, retrieve with the right.

Nice!  I wonder how you ended up this way.

Dunno exactly - grew up with left-handed spinners, so cast right/retrieve left. Got my first BC and it was a righty, so cast left/retrieve right...guess I'm partially ambidextrous. New spinning reels picked up the last few years - swap-able, so switched them to right-retrieve.

I have done most of my heavy work (lifting/shifting) with my left arm, right was for 'delicate' work...so my left is stronger and steadier - makes for better distance on my casts.

I’ll confess it’s not any particular lure or technique... it’s my electronics. I just don’t want or care to spend the time to learn their full capabilities graphing a lot of water. I know I’m missing out, especially as fishing gets tougher. But I’d rather just turn the things on and spend my time fishing, which is why I’m out on the water in the first place.....

I don't think you're alone, not by a long shot. As a bank fisherman in a heavy pressured lake who would love to be in a boat with electronics, I walk the banks watching boat after boat beating the banks, going round and round like it was NASCAR. Fishing all the areas bank fishermen have fished to death. Doesn't matter what time of the year. If they try getting more than 50 feet from the bank, it's just for a few minutes. It's very rare I see anyone really hunting with their electronics, but on the rare occasions I do, I see them catching lots of fish.

Are you serious Clark ?

Yes, Eddie, I am serious.

Too many things to reply to:

I don’t think I ever caught one on a Senko either, but to be fair,  I don’t try them enough to give them a fair chance. I just don’t like the way they look as much as a lot of other soft plastics. Life is too short to keep throwing something that you aren't enjoying.

Every Ned rig I have thrown I have lost to a snag within 15 minutes or so. I like the way they look, but again, I haven’t thrown them enough to catch a fish. Rigged weedless, they don't look as good.

Never caught anything on the drop shot, but tried. Not a good bank technique.

I started with baitcasters, then moved to spinning. Most people do the opposite. I still have baitcasters, but I prefer spinning 100%.

I don’t care much for ribbontail worms, except for those over 10”.

Never bought a Whopper Plopper either, but I currently own 8 that I’ve found here and there. I’ve lost a few besides.

I don’t care so much for lipped crankbaits either. I’ve caught quite a few fish on them, but I don’t throw them as much as I use to. I prefer soft plastics, topwater and lipless.

I love the way glide baits look, and I’ve tried a lot, but I don’t think I ever caught one with them either.

Tried wacky rig a few times, but didn’t care for it.

Never caught one on an A-rig. Fishing buddy used to call it the idiot bait, and he threw it all the time.

Very unpopular opinion: I hate jigs. I catch many many more fish on a T-rigged beaver style or other type of creature bait. Jigs are not a confidence bait for me.

I've always casted right handed and reeled left,  I can do it the other way, I just don't want to

At this point, I'm pretty sure I could catch a bass on half a flip flop with a barbless treble

Hmmm I'll give you a gen 2 quantum smoke reel in mint condition if you can!

Re: bank fishing a drop shot, is it possible that you did something wrong..? I've caught tons of fish dropshotting from the bank. I almost 100% of the time use a 4" roboworm, usually in hologram shad, on 6 or 8 lb fluro, but I have used mono also. Also, I keep the bait no more than 12" off the bottom, usually less.

He's going to do it you know.  These northern smallmouth will eat most anything in the spring.

I don't like dragging a big football jig out deep. I do love dragging a Carolina rig. Kinda strange being as they're very similar.

I won't use a football jig anymore. Got tired of getting snagged and having to break it off to get loose. There's just too much big riprap in all the places I fish, and the head shape is a nightmare for me around all that rock.

While I'm always game for a good challenge,

this one might be a bit of a stretch.

Either way, I certainly do appreciate the support.

Well I'm a devout baitcast, straight braid, mh and up kind of guy... But the biggest bass I (probably) ever caught (no scale back then) was caught on a m/f 7' spinning rod 1/8oz. Unpegged Brass weight red glass bead and a 2/0 light wire straight shank worm hook and 8 lb. Mono.

No Doubt ~ @keagbassr

And judging by the multiple Green TANKS you shared with us this past season

You certainly NEED IT !

I have no confidence in shakeyheads.

I have never caught a crankbait bass. (2020 goal)

I have no confidence in wacky rigging anymore.

^ (The texas rig is just so effective.)

Sorry to say, but I like to see certain guys in my state finish at the bottom of some Region and BASS state tournaments.

We have very few jerks in our Virginia fishing industry but the ones we have are really jerks.

look at the booyah blades, i think they're 5.29 a piece or so at academy. they do absolute work and always run right. white/chart double colorado blade with a white zoom split tail trailer. february-april there are days where it is hard to pick anything else up

The booyah's do work but my problem is the skirts fall apart on them if you so much as breathe on them. They do make some single and double bladed colorado bladed spinnerbaits that are productive early and late in the season when they won't chase any other moving bait.
