Super User ChrisD46 Posted December 19, 2019 Super User Posted December 19, 2019 For those that use football jigs , swim jigs , vibrating bladed jigs and spinnerbaits - what are some favorite skirt patterns you are currently having success with at the moment ? ... I have various jigs and spinner baits that need skirt replacements thus I am looking for some new skirt pattern inspiration - thanks in advance ! Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted December 19, 2019 Super User Posted December 19, 2019 Chris, I usually match skirt colors with the head color. Not exact, maybe slightly darker or lighter usually with an accent color that gives some contrast. Before I paint a jig or spinnerbait I will use local forage as a guide, like when I crappie fish I'll take pictures of the crappie and the bluegill that I usually catch with them as well. I also do the same thing with craws and minnows and then I use those pictures as a guide to creating color patterns for my lures. 2 Quote

Super User fishballer06 Posted December 19, 2019 Super User Posted December 19, 2019 Bluegill and crappie are the main forage around here. 2 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted December 19, 2019 Super User Posted December 19, 2019 Academy Sports, Bass Pro, Cabelas & on line have decent selections of skirts to choose from. I prefer the ones that come all put together endnote the ones just held together by a rubber band. War Eagle has a good selection. Be aware that if you're buying pre-fab skirts to use on jigs you're going to have to trim some. Terminator used to make decent skirts but I haven't seen any on the shelves lately. For a good all purpose color for spinner baits, I think the War Eagle Table Rock Shad is a good color, as is Spot Remover or Mouse. Quote

BoatSquirrel Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 I was having this discussion with a bro this week. He told me he caught his first jig bass back in 1980 on a chartreuse jig with no trailer, a 5lbr! I seem to remember some guys on this site talking about throwing solid blue chatterbaits. That one intrigues me. Quote

Allen Shad colors this time of the year for spinnerbaits / chatterbaits ; then for football jigs it's craw colors or a variation off of green pumpkin . Quote

Look at the turbo flare skirts Jannsnetcraft, Barlows Tackle, etc. sell. These are what I have been using lately and they are nice. As for football jigs I only use 3/4oz personally and like Starflash skirts. Black and Cumberland craw from Jannsnetcraft. https://www.jannsnetcraft.com/silicone-skirts/360205.aspx#ItemImage Crawdad (#1 color) and green pumkin from Barlows https://barlowstackle.com/5-Starflash-Skirts--P777/ The starflash flare more than regular silicone like living rubber but they don't melt.
