What is there a list of must-have hooks in this line up? I’m starting over with my line up so curious on which models and sizes are staples everything from ewg, worm hooks trebles etc

Only time I replace trebles is if there's an issue. 90%+ of what I get are Rapalas, which come with VMC hooks, so they're fine. If you need trebles, make sure to get the same size as what came on the original - you can get that info from the manufacturers site.

My list of other types is fairly simple

Drop-shot in #1 and #2

Worm Hooks in 2/0 and 4/0

EWG in 2/0 and 4/0

Flipping in 3/0 and 5/0

That covers pretty much everything I do with hooks, from T-Rigs to drop-shotting to flip/pitch/punch to wacky.

I had a 20” smallmouth bend 3 of the 6 points on a brand new rapala ripping rap Saturday. But He didn’t bend them all the way and I caught it! Hahaha

That's about a 5#er - I've caught 8-10# Northern on Rapalas of all types and never had one bend...might have been one (2) that made it through QC. Happens even with the best hooks (Owner, Gamy) that some 'bad' ones sneak through.

It’s a smallish lure with some pretty small hooks too, I’ll keep chucking it

Why limit yourself to Gamakatsu hooks?

Hooks are kinda a personal choice.  As an example I fish 5" worms on a 2/0 ewg.  Most use a 3/0 for that bait.  I dont normally catch bass over 4 or 5 lbs, and the biggest bass I landed was on a tiny crankbait with #6 trebbles. Good thing it was spring.

There is that. If it's a narrow-body worm/lizard I don't even use an EWG, just a standard offset, but in that same 2/0 size up to 6" worms. My current PB is 4.7#, my best this past season was 3.94#...so I hear you.

Pull out the " gear bible", i.e. the current Bas Pro Shop Master Catalog and on page 296 there is a whole page of various Gammy hooks.  Take your pick..   I own lots of different hooks from lots of different companies and I switch around a lot.  I think that if ou stick with the major companies it is hard to go wrong.   Gammy hooks that I can't do without might include, hook #P - the Wicked wacky hook ( the best bubba drop shot hook I've come across so far)

hook #M - O'Shoughnessy Offset Shank  (I just like that style of hook bend better than the round bend)

I wouldn't be surprised, if I went through my hook collection, if I didn't have at least a few of most of the hooks on the Gammy page.  Same goes for the other pages as well.  I went through a period a few years ago where I bought a lot of hooks - all different shapes & sizes - for no good reason other than I wanted an extreme assortment of hooks.

I like  the newer Berkley Fusion hooks, the offset worm hook, which size wise splits the difference between a standard worm hook and a wide gap hook has worked good for me.

There are lots of good hooks out there, I don't think you need to marry yourself to the notion of only getting Gammy  hooks.

On the subject of treble hooks & replacing them, I get the sizes mixed up pretty easily.   I just bring the baits with the messed up hooks to the bait store with me and then try to match them up to the trebles available.  I've found that Academy sports has a decent collection of replacement crank bait trebels.  On a side note, if. you feel like you have many treble hooks to replace,

This is a known issue with all of the new Rapala jerkbaits. Search around online and you'll see tons of guys having this issue. They need switched out directly from the package.

Do you use the drop shot or EWG hooks for wacky rigging?

I've purchased some owner mosquito hooks for wacky rigging but haven't got a ton of experience with them yet to say if I like them or not.

I've also used a 1/0 VMC heavy wire worm hook for wacky rigging a couple times. Really liked having the extra weight when using a dinger. Mostly used that for easy swapping between wacky and weightless TX rigging.

My personal list is slightly different. I use VMC Spin-Shot hooks for drop-shotting and Owner Wacky hooks for wacky-rigs. If I went to one hook for both techniques, it'd be a tossup between the Owner Wacky and Owner Mosquito. I think the Mosquito hooks would work fine for Wacky or Drop-shotting. Someone else might have a different opinion

That is a sound list and solid selection.
Not only that, it is “universal” in that the brand choice is on the angler.

Gamakatsu hooks are great. I use these the most.

EWG

Off set worm hook

and one that isn't talked about much but has an excellent hookup ratio, the G-Lock. Probably my favorite hook for plastics.

It's like a modified EWG hook.

I've been trying out the G Finesse Hybrid Worm hooks lately, I really really like them.
