SMbasser Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 So Ive been planning on getting a Dobyns Fury for awhile now for frogging/heavier duty techniques with the occasional jigs/senko for better sensitivity compared to my other rods. Was supposed to be a frugal choice but found deals for both, the fury being 90 from 120 and the Sierra being 135 from 180. Is the sierra worth the extra bump? Or just stick with my frugal choice of the fury and maybe pick up more baits and stuff along with it. Quote
Glaucus Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 The Sierra is more sensitive but it's a slower action. A fast Fury and a fast Sierra are not the same. Quote
kayaking_kev Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 A Fury 735c is a Fast Action Rod and the Sierra 735c is Extra Fast. The Fury will be fine for frogging, but the Sierra will have more sensitivity for other stuff. Quote

Also try calling Dobyns they might have some used/blemish rods. I bought a couple of the Sierra models for only $100.00 shipped to my door. They were in very great condition, you couldn't really tell that they weren't new. Quote

So i will mainly be using a rod for frogging, plopping, and jigs/senkos. Do you think the 734c sierra is better than the 705sf in terms of those applications? Or should i save 30 dollars and get the 705sf if it does the same job. Quote
scbassin Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 The Sierra is a notch above the Fury. If it were me I would get the Sierra. I do have 7 of the Sierra line, I like the length. As swhit140 said above you should call Dobyns Rods & ask if they have what your looking for.903 919 8028. Gary told me when I was looking that they were back logged & all the refurbished were not on the site. Tell them what you are wanting it for & they might have a better deal on a different line. It does not hurt to ask & they are very helpful. 1 Quote
newyorktoiowa57 Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 To me the Sierra is a much nicer rod. More crisp, much better guides, more sensitive. 2 Quote
Dangerfield Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 Sierra hands down. I've always wanted a 734c, it's the most versatile rod in any line up but I just found a killer deal on a Daiwa Tatula Elite 7'3" MH and I'll be pulling the trigger on that rod. Sensitivity over everything. Quote
bunz559 Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 Don't quote me, but I believe the Sierra series was built on the older Savvy series rods which were really popular. I had 1 Sierra rod that I sold to upgrade, but it was great! As for the Fury 735 as a frog rod, it would work great if you prefer a faster and stouter tip for frogging. For me, I couldn't walk a frog worth a darn with it. I purchased it specifically for frogging since it was budget friendly and because I hardly get to frog much. I switched over to my 745 Extreme rod and walking a frog was a piece of cake. Partially was due to the softer and slower tip of the Extreme series. My advice, if you can walk a frog with a stout fast tip, go for the Fury. If you prefer the softer slower tip, I'd probably go with the Sierra. The Extra Fast and Fast actions printed on the rods are slightly missleading. They're all different depending on how Mr Dobyns wanted the rods to feel and materials used to build them. My Extreme series rods have much slower tips than most of my others, Megabass, Shimano, Irods.... Quote
