skronky Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 39lbs thrust, works sometimes and then does nothing. I don't know if there is a bad connection. Seems like the first step to breaking completely. Anyone else had this problem with motor guides? I know they don't have a great reputation on this board...maybe most people have had the same problem with them! Thanks Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted October 16, 2008 Super User Posted October 16, 2008 I have a Minn Kota Riptide that does the same thing. Mine is almost 2 yrs old. It cuts off after it's been running for a while. I have to turn it off for a couple minutes to, I guess cool off, and back on again. I always thought there was a built in "overheat" thing-a-majiggy" that would automatically shut it off when it gets too hot but maybe I'm wrong.. Quote
Garnet Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 For both your problems, when it stops turn your speed up, if nothing happens take a stick (not your fingers) and push the prop if your motor starts you have a dead spot in motor. Could be just adjustment or new motor. The only turn off saftey is fuse/breakers if they are too large or not there it's wienie roasting time. Garnet Quote
George Welcome Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Circuit board component break-down. One of these times it simply will not come back on. MK is guaranteed for 3 years. Take it in for repair. Quote
Super User Tin Posted October 17, 2008 Super User Posted October 17, 2008 My MG was doing this earlier in the year, it was a bad ground in the pedal. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 check the speed control knob. I had a transom mount great white that has gone through two of these. I would work intermittenly until I replaced this part. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted October 17, 2008 Super User Posted October 17, 2008 Thanks for the advice. I will take it in for repair. Quote
