I fish mostly soft plastic so my first 3 are all MHF. 1 4.8 keitech on a 1/4 ounce swimbait head, 4.8 on an 1/4 ounce underspin, zman chatterbait with a zako. Other 2 are medium moderate crankbait rods with a popper and a whopper plopper 75. All rods are abu garcia veritas rods and all reels are shimano curado k's Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted December 14, 2019 Super User Posted December 14, 2019 If I had to drop from 7 to 5 - here's the rigs I own that I'd 'keep' Fuego/Aird-X Heavy/Fast - Pitch, flip, punch, frogs, topwater President/Aird-X M-Heavy/Fast - Spinner, chatter, buzz, T-Rigs (heavy or in weeds), most of my jigs Fuego/Fury M-Heavy/Mod - Crank/jerk Trion/Aird-X Medium/Fast - Small crank/jerk, T-Rigs (under 1/2 oz weight), Neko, small spinners and jigs (1/4 oz or less) Avocet/Avocet M-Light/Fast - Drop-shot, weightless wacky, Ned. So which rod do I pick when I go out - no science behind it. Just what I feel like - most likely a rod I haven't used in awhile! Yea, most of my rods are "MF". Some "MH F". When fishing out of a partners boat I always ask what the bite is and what he planes to use and select 5 combos suited for what we will be fishing. I nearly always use jigs and T-rigged soft plastics with my custom ALX rods. 6'10" 6 power fast rated for 3/8-1 1/4 oz lures, Tatula 8:1 for my hair jigs. 6'10" 5 power fast rated for 1/4- 1oz oz lures Tatula 8:1 for my T-rigged soft plastics. The next 3 are seasonal or whatever the current bit requires; 8' XH swimbait 3-10 oz lures, Calcutta 250 or 300D winter-pre spawn 7' H Lamiglas 1/2-1 oz lures, Cardiff 300, deep diving crank baits. 6'8" MJ Drop shot and slip shot 1/8-1/2 lures, Shinmano Stratic 2500 finesse soft plastics. 7' MJ , MH 1/8-1/2 oz oz finesse jigs and nail weight finesse worms, Stractic 2500. 7' PR745C, 1/4- 1 oz lures, 1/4-5/8 oz crankbaits, 1/2-1 oz structure spoons, fall. 6'9" MJ Splash-It, medium fast 1/4- 5/8 oz surface lures and jerk baits, original TD Fuego. 7'5" H fast IRG754 frog rod, 1/2- 2 oz lures, Cardiff 300, frogs, medium swimbait and glides. What I use depends on what's going on at that time. Most of these rods I have a back up outfit. You only need the 1 that is catching bass. Tom 4 Quote

Now I bring six but at times brought seven, and next summer it'll probably be eight. But......question was which 5????? I take one rod to bank fish, and 2-3 on my kayak.I usually choose from these five setups Lews custom speed stick "Top water'' 6'8" Medium Light fast rod with Shimano 70 for finesse (Love this setup) Lews custom speed stick "Spinnerbait" 6'10" Medium Heavy fast with Lews Tournament pro reel (great all around rod) Lews custom speed stick "Magnum Bass 2" 7'2" Medium Heavy fast with Lews BB1 Pro for bigger baits and bigger fish. Lews custom speed stick light "Magnum Grass 7'2" Heavy fast with Shimano citica for pitching into heavy cover and tossing huge lures and frogs. Fenwick Eagle 7' medium fast spinning rod with pflueger president reel for anything the baitcasters can't handle. Quote

Carbonite 2.0 6'8" M-Xf spinning rod with a Shimano Stradic FL 2500 and 20lb braid to a 6lb hybrid leader. Carbonite 2.0 6'9" MH-XF casting rod with a Daiwa Fuego CT and 30lb braid to a 14lb mono leader. I am debating about picking up a Shimano Curado K in the spring. Put the Fuego on my trunk set up, an old Shimano compre two piece casting rod, 6'10" MH-XF. Quote
