hey guys my carpet is really bad when i bought it so i want to recarpet it this winter while im not doing any fishing..just wondering how you do this and if you have any good tips how not to screw it up. my boat is a bass tracker pro 17 1988. so how much carpet should i buy...how to take it off the decks. how to redo it that kind of stuff thanks guys...oh and i did search up in the little right hand search area and nothing came up. oh and all my decks are wood.

I would contact tracker and see if they have a precut carpet kit for your model of boat or something of that nature. A friend of mine found a kit for his older Stratos everything was precut went on simple and easy.

I just recarpeted my 18ft Landau, i used both outdoor carpet adhesive and the spray on adhesive(mostly for the hatch lids). Be sure to get all the old adhesive off(sand,scrape,adhesive remover). I kept each piece of carpet i took off, marked it, and used it as a rough pattern for the new pieces, keep your grain all running the same direction, looks better.

thanks guys though i am not old lol i am 20yrs old and yes i do know how to write they make sure of that in the airforce. i just wanted some help.. i didnt know this was school either but thanks for all your guys help. i will check into tracker for my boat model and see if i can get some carpet. thanks again.

$265 for 20oz. carpet to cover a 17' boat and no adhesive comes with it?

I just purchased a 20' roll of 20oz. to do my Champion 18 1/2.  I paid a whopping $150 total.  Add in adhesive and some blades for the carpet knife and I still won't hit $200.  

I'd look into buying a roll and save yourself some money.

my bigest problem was with the corners of compartment lids. had to ask a lady that sews for a living there is a certain way to cut carpet to make a corner look right

What is this high school english class? Good luck changing the carpet boss.  I personally have never done the job.  But if I knew how I would defintely help you out.

I like how I catch you on a few mistakes in a previous post and you ignore it. Then someone else makes a mistake and your all over him.

I finished out the trim on my Skeeter this evening. Three solid days when you figure in the time for the edges of the lids to dry. Biggest chore is the preparation needed to apply new coat of glue. It is a nightmare, not to mention all of the lids on a bass boat. Good luck and try to pick a lighter color. Goes a long way in helping to keep the temperature down in the summer.

One other thing that's not mentioned in the BFR article on carpeting or just about anywhere else.

Most carpeting has a grain to it.  In other words, there will be definitive lines in the carpet depending on how the carpet was spun and how the roll was cut off the main roll.  This is important if you're concerned about appearance of the carpet.  After determining which way the grain of the carpet is on the roll you have make sure you lay out your floor areas and compartment tops on the carpet with that in mind.  While the temptation is to cram everything into the cutting layout so you have the least amount of loss, the grain direction will become apparent if you cut several pieces with it going one way and other pieces the other.  It won't be till you lay it that the grain direction will really be apparent and the boat will tend to take a checkerboard appearance.

By doing this you will wind up using a little more carpet and you will probably have more leftover but the final appearance will be so much nicer.
