papajoe222 Posted December 9, 2019 Posted December 9, 2019 I love blade baits in cold water, They're probably my most productive lure up to the spawn. The last couple of seasons, I've been using them in place of lipless cranks in the summer, reason being they're much more silent. Now, you may laugh, but I hang the belly hooks on my lipless using two split rings (one below the other), as I feel it gives the bass less leverage to throw the hooks. I haven't done it to my blade baits, as I rarely deal with fish throwing them. Anyone double split ring either of these baits? 2 Quote

I have not encountered a problem with bass jumping & throwing blade baits but I would imagine the cool to cold water I'm usually fishing them in plays a role in that. Some guys go single hooks on blade bits perhaps that's an option;I do not. Also I've not heard of the double split ring deal either. Initially I would think that one ring may keep the bait in the fishes mouth and two may have it hanging out if it's face which would seem to make it easier to throw ? ? Perhaps plus size your trebles on the lippless instead or go to EWG's if you haven't already. They've certainly won me over. A-Jay Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted December 9, 2019 Super User Posted December 9, 2019 I've tried the double split ring method, and all I got was fouled hooks. You might want to try this method, but I can't see how it would adapt to blade baits. https://outdooraddictions.wordpress.com/2015/01/01/the-trailing-hook-method/ jj Quote
boostr Posted December 9, 2019 Posted December 9, 2019 I just got into them, ordered several of the Heddon Sonar blade baits and upgraded the trebles and added single split rings per treble. Used them yesterday without issues or fish.... Quote
