Marc Tyler Posted December 8, 2019 Posted December 8, 2019 What do y'all use for small poppers (megabass pop x) and the whopper plopper 75. I have a abu garcia veritas winch (7foot medium moderate crankbait rod) Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted December 8, 2019 Super User Posted December 8, 2019 For that weight range Marc, I throw a Dobyns Champion 705CB. Several guys in our bass club are throwing the Fury 705CB. These also make outstanding squarebill rods. Good shopping. Quote

Super User MIbassyaker Posted December 8, 2019 Super User Posted December 8, 2019 I prefer short rods with F or XF actions for popping/twitching/walking/jerking presentations. I use two rods for jerkbaits & plug-style topwaters around 1/2oz, more or less interchangeably: A 6'4" M-XF Fenwick Aetos (older model) or 6'6" M-F St. Croix Premier. I suppose something softer may be more optimal for the WP 75, but I find it fishes just fine on both of those rods. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 11, 2019 Global Moderator Posted December 11, 2019 Small poppers I fish on a 6' 2" M/XF Avid. I can make them do things with that rod that no other rod I've found can make them do. The 75 plopper could be fished on the cranking rod, but I like to fish mine on a 7' M/F rod and braid. No hookset required, I just crank into them and let the hooks dig. Quote
