What rod should I combo with my shimano slx xt151hg

I was thinking the st croix bass x 7’2 mhm but I don’t know if moderate action was the right choice.

That rod would be good for crankbaits and spinnerbaits. If this is an all purpose rod, you need a fast action rod. It will make your plastics and jig fishing so much easier.

Any recommendations for a fast action rod around the 100$ price point?

If you wanted to stick with St Croix, they make the Bass X in fast action as well.

 

The SLX rods are also $100.

Here are a few choices under $100.00. I tried the Bass X. I didn't like it at all, very tip heavy to me even with a reel mounted on the rod.

I have the Lamiglas XP704C Bass Rod and it is a pretty nice rod, I paid $79.00 when I bought mine.

I would pick the Bass X as well, 7'1'' MH Fast or the M Fast.  Seems like a great rod for the money.

I left a few rods a couple posts above that might be a few other choices at a lower price point that can get the job done also. It can depend on what your planning to spend $ wise also and what technique your looking to use.

 

I've never used a St Croix rod so I can't give you my personal opinion. If you set on St Croix rod the specs on the Mojo Bass if you're looking at the MH models, it looks like just a bit difference between the 7-7'1, I think either would get the job done, just depends on what kind of lure/technique your planning to the rod for?

Dobyns Fury 734c can be had on Dobyns website under refurbished rods for under $100. Most are in excellent condition and have just been traded in. 703c or 704c if you want a shorter length. The 734c is the most versatile rod is just about every Dobyns Series from the Colt to the Champion XP.

 

There are a few rods under $100 that are decent. The Lew's TP-1 has been on sale, I got one for $65 at Dicks recently.

The 13 Fishing Defy Black for $59 is a good rod for the price. I got one for under $50 at Dicks about 2 weeks ago.

I was pleasantly surprised at the lightness and balance of both of those rods.

 

I've heard great things about the $59 Daiwa AirXd.

 

I wouldn't get a SLX rod to pair with your SLX XT, the balance isn't good at all. I have a SLX reel paired with my Fury 703c and it balances perfect. I also have the SLX XT paired with a Dobyns Champion Glass and the blue on blue looks slick. I have two SLX rods and they both need heavier reels to balance out. I have the Daiwa Fuego on one and at 7.6 oz. it's still not a good balance. I'm not sure how the SLX rods are so poorly balanced, they are light rods, must be just tip heavy.
