Always looking for a deal but a little cheap most times. Does anyone use a pflueger xt baitcaster and do you like them? have several spinners and like them but didnt know they had baitcasters

I don't own one but based on information I've seen online it seems to be a quality reel.

I have a Supreme XT and, yes, I like it.  Never handled a President XT.  I personally feel Pflueger baitcast reels are the Rodney Dangerfield of baitcast reels........they get no respect.  :D  TackleTour gave the older President (not the XT) a Best Value Award.  I have an older Trion (back when they had aluminum frames).  Not pretty.  Not small.  Not light.  But it is a casting machine on the 6'10" HF I have it on.

I used them for years. Good reels. I switched to Lews. I like them better. You can't go wrong with a pflueger.

Yes, bought a supreme back in 2000 on sale for 79.99 down from 99.99 ... a little heavy by today's standards but still is the best fitting reel in my hands i've ever used ... still use it with no problems ... also bought a summit made for cabela's that carried the pflueger name sold only thru cabela's ... 150 dollar reel sold for 75.00 ... still use it and it's going strong ...

pflueger used to have pros like davy hite and mark davis have pflueger as their sponsor on the pro tour ... time has changed things ...

Pflueger, Abu, and to some extent Lew's all share underpinnings.  All but Lew's are part of Pure Fishing: http://www.purefishing.com/our-brands/.

By price point, compared to similar reels, they are good reels.  To me they are like Buick is to Chevy.  A little fancier styling, but the same function.

Brand name only made in the same off shore plant with different logos. I would be concerned about parts availability if you ever need something replaced, otherwise pick a  name you prefer.

If you want long term product support and spare parts, upgrades etc, go with Daiwa or Shimano.

I have a Pflueger Asaro reel, was MSRP $129.99, and a very good reel similar in size/weight to a Shimano Citica 100dsv or a Daiwa Lexa 100, and the best of the three with finesse lures. Yes if you like Abu or Lews check out the Pfluegers too.

I have a President XT, nice reel for the money.  At the $55 asking price seen on Amazon, it would be worth it to flush and oil the spool bearings then upgrade the drag to Carbontex.  That would still keep you under the usual $79.99 price and make it an overall better reel.

I don't have the XT, but the base President BC. Worked great for spinners, chatters, and T-Rigs this past year. I wouldn't turn up my nose at an XT.

I have tried a few Pfluegers in my day and did not have the best experience.  Both reels were great until they were not.

But with that said, since then all of the reels I have seen from Abu, Pflueger and Lew's have come a long way.

When paying full retail, I always thought of Pflueger as sort of the best bang for the buck.

Earlier this year a great deal was posted by a member here: Flooger was offering up a number of reels at stupid low prices. I grabbed two Supreme XTs for something like 59$ each and my brother got two Patriarchs.

The Supreme XT is not the best light bait reel. It has a heavy spool. Things get tricky/touchy under 3/8oz, but it's doable, sort of like the Curado K. However, the Supreme XT is a supreme long bomb caster. No reel I own with the same line on the same rod, including the Curado K or Chronarch, allows me to chuck a frog as far. I'm not talking a few feet either. I'm talking 10-15 yards farther. There are edges of pad fields way out there that I could never reach in the past but I can now with the Supreme XT. It's a freak in that regard.

Otherwise it's a solid reel. It's light at 6.5 ozs. No quirks that come to mind. A tad geary on the retrieve after a season of lots of fishing and lots of catches, when compared to the big two, but not enough to bother me. My Tatula SV's gear and pinion are horrible after a year and a half and need to be replaced, so things happen. The camlock side plate is cool. The main gear lube port is handy. I've unscrewed the spool tension knob and oiled that bearing under it and the spool bearings a few times along with the brake drum and worm gear occasionally and it stays humming nicely. I couldn't be happier, especially for what I paid.

Which XT model, there are several models postfixed with XT.

A few years ago I bought a Supreme XT baitcaster for my youngest son. It does not brake as well as my Daiwa reels but fairly similar to my oldest son's Shimano Curado in terms of braking (and all around performance only much lighter) but has a ton of drag on hand, holds a lot of line and is extremely light and casts a mile.

I also have a Pflueger Patriarch casting reel that I used last year for jerkbaits and poppers which is a dual braking reel so you can really tweak it. It's as light as the Supreme XT but brakes a touch better, for obvious reasons.

I have had no problems and have been very pleased with both of the reels and you can also buy most parts for most reels right on their website rather easily.

I am the guy that posted the deal.  About two weeks before coming across that deal from Pflueger, I broke down and bought the Supreme XT for something like $120 or $129...I forget.  I had been keeping an eye on them for some time, but the price never seemed to come down.  Just had to pick up another at the sale price, and went ahead and got a Patriarch while I was at it since I didn't have one of that model.  Both reels still sit in their box.  I did get to use the first Supreme XT a couple times.

Was glad to read your comments.  Thanks.  Smalljaw67 is the reason I wanted one.  He used to tournament fish and has used some pretty expensive reels.  He liked his first Supreme XT well enough to go buy a second.  However, I don't remember if he said anything about it not handling lighter weights well.  I thought I remembered reading somewhere that it did a decent job with them.  Mine is set up with 12# line and on a MH rod.  Had planned on putting 8# AN40 on the other Supreme XT to try it with lighter weights, but guess I'll forget that now based on your comments.

BTW, what line are you using on yours, and what rod(s) did you try it with lighter lures?

I would try it. If I'm correct that reel has both centrifugal and magnetic brakes. You should be able to set it up to cast lots of different lures.

I had the President XT and liked it really well for the money. I still have 3 regular President baitcasters and honestly would suggest just getting those instead of the XT and saving a couple bucks. I use the Presidents for bank fishing and in my kayak and they're solid reels that cast great.

I would have to disagree. I broke a park on a Curado 201 from the early 90’s. I called Shimano and they sent me the parts. And get this - for free!

My Calcutta 250 is early 90's vintage and Shimano still carries parts and Dan at ReelEx carries a wide inventory of parts for Shimano reels as one example.

With popular reels it's also posible to scavenge reel parts from older reels like Abu Ambassadors for example.

Parts list like Franco posted is very helpful but the Pflueger company as we knew it no longer exits, it's a brand no different then Johnny Mooris BPS reels.

Both Daiwa and Shimano are physical companies located in SoCal and anyone can call or visit thier parts department.
