fk_98 Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 Hello, I am interested in trying out a Quantum Baitcast reel, specifically the vapor pt. I currently own an Abu Garcia bait caster and was wondering if trying out a quantum is worth it? I have heard both good and bad things about quantum reels but would like to hear from someone who has used Quantum reels in the past. Thanks. Quote
Dens228 Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 I had two Quantum's, the Smoke S3's. I really liked them but do prefer my Lew's and Diawa's more. Quote
Chance_Taker4 Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 I to have a Smoke S3 as well as a couple Exo. Quantums are finicky and must be meticulously maintained to keep them running at optimal performance. They're good reels though and enjoy them. Quote
swhit140 Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 I purchased one Quantum reel many years ago, unfortunately it lasted about a year. Hopefully they have improved the quality of them. The new Accurist S3 PT looks like pretty nice reel. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted December 3, 2019 Super User Posted December 3, 2019 Never used a Vapor. My 6 Smoke reels are quite a bit better than my 5 Tatulas. Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted December 3, 2019 Super User Posted December 3, 2019 I think Qauntum makes some very good reels. I have a tournament narrow spool casting reel I bought on clearance. It's my only mag brake reel. Smooth, well made and cast great. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 3, 2019 Super User Posted December 3, 2019 I have had the Vapor since April and it's not bad. It's actually super smooth and cast well. It sort of feels cheap in hand but otherwise it's pretty solid. I wouldn't pay full retail for this reel since it goes for about the same price as a Curado. I picked mine up for about $75. I did have a few concerns right out of the box though. The break side frame did not fit properly. It took Quantum 3 different parts and a new reel before they figured it out. Eventually between all the parts and the two reels I was able to get one working reel. I will say this, Quantum's service is great and they do care a lot about making sure their customers are happy but I would question their parts and engineering departments. Quote
Shimano_1 Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 I think quantum has came a long way in recent years. I had the last generation smoke that a cousin and I beat to death for several years then gifted to a friend who still used it. Buddy fishes the new smokes and they are fine reels. I've eyed those vapors on the auction site as they frequently go for pretty cheap. I'm sure they are fine reels Quote

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ While I have no hands on experience with the Vapor PT, I do fish other quantum reels quite a bit. The ones I have work well for me. Like most any brand out there, the better quality product comes from whatever their top of the line model(s) is or are. The Mid-Tier products are often quite serviceable if cared for. As one starts venture into the base or economy line reels, it may not be reasonable to expect more than that level of performance & durability. Perhaps consider this when making you selection. A-Jay I love this collection. The Exo is one of my all time favorite reels. 1 Quote

Thanks - Both the 100 & the 200 EXO have helped me land many a quality Bass; Green & Brown. However if you look closely, you'll notice that each and every EXO stock handle has been replaced with an after market Hawgtech Carbon Fiber Handle. https://www.hawgtech.com/ Makes a decent reel that much better. Huge Fan of these. A-Jay 1 Quote
