I have a 14ft v hull with a 4hp motor and a 55# thrust trolling motor. both motors run strong and the boat has no leaks and is in good condition. i am looking to upgrade and get a new boat but i have some questions.

1. Would i be better off with a bass tracker alluminium boat like this http://nh.craigslist.org/boa/865992700.html

or a glass boat like this http://nh.craigslist.org/boa/851898834.html?

2. how much could i sell my boat set up for?

any advice would be greatly appreciated

thanks

i own a 1988 bass tracker pro 17 and love it these last 4 days i only had to put 4 gallons of gas in my 6 gallon tank and my boat has a 40 horse motor on it. i drive alot to. easy on gas and easy to tow.

I am running a 1984 Bass Tracker.  While it can be a rough ride on rough water, it is an inexpensive boat to operate and I don't feel mistreated by having an aluminum boat.

My big concern with the Cajun is the motor is only 40 hp.  That is way underpowered.

"does 35-40 mph 80 hp mercury 2 stroke"

thats funny to me. 90% of the time when a person guestimates speed the guess should be divided by .6......................lol

I would go for the tracker

35-40 MPH with a 80hP merc.. that sounds right. I have a 2005 tracker ptx 175 and with a 25hp it will run 22-23mph on gps and my 17'6" sea nymph V hull will top out at 37mph GPS( heavy load)  with a 75hp

How much for your boat?

well you didn't give much info. what brand? year? have trailer? both motors going? what year are they? Brand? and it goes from there

but I would say $500-$1000

Thanks for all the info!! I am not sure of the year or brand of the boat or motor. There is a trailer for the boat but it was a home made one that the person i bought the boat from made, it is in good shape tho and all lights work and wheels are good. both motors are going the trolling motor is a motorguide i think its a 1998. what would be the correct hp to push a boat like the cajun that i showed? i have seen other bass trackers with 25hp and 40 hp on them is that enough power?

thanks, all the input is greatly appreciated

A 17' fiberglass bassboat should have a HP rating between 90 and 130 depending on the width. Ask what the boat is rated for.

The best size motor for a boat is the maximum it is rated for. A max motor operated at 1/2 throttle compared to a small motor at max throttle going the same speed is a lot more fuel efficient.
