Harold Scoggins Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 This was fun. Had to change out a battery today and discovered that GM does not want it to be a DIY job. No mention in the owners manual, thank goodness for YT. I guess the guy in the video didn't see the tabs holding the busbar on the battery. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35ih6Ncd_Eg Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted November 30, 2019 Super User Posted November 30, 2019 Another blunder from the good ole GM engineers. Even my 2003 Duramax has some crazy to get to stuff that makes almost impossible for a dyi to do.. 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted November 30, 2019 Super User Posted November 30, 2019 It's not a new thing. My wife's old '93 Buick Century - had to remove a cross-bar that reinforced the nose-grill assembly to get the battery out. 1 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted November 30, 2019 Super User Posted November 30, 2019 Wifey and daughter both had Pontiac G6's. The bumper cover needed to be pulled out to remove the headlight assembly to change the headlight bulbs. 1 1 Quote
Harold Scoggins Posted November 30, 2019 Author Posted November 30, 2019 I took my truck in for service (oil and tire rotation) this morning and while waiting in the showroom, I had a salesman pop the hood on a new Silverado. You should have seen the look on his face when I pointed at the battery and told him he'd to knock off a hundred for that. 1 minute ago, slonezp said: The bumper cover needed to be pulled out to remove the headlight assembly to change the headlight bulbs. The money is not in car sales, it's in service charges. 1 Quote

And...not to mention the parts prices..especially if you own a Diesel powered truck..$ 65.00 usd for a fuel filter ( AC Delco) I can get them online for about $ 20.00 or less..Changing one is an Ordeal.. Super User flyfisher Posted December 1, 2019 Super User Posted December 1, 2019 That is nothing.... This is what you have to do to replace the thermostat in my mini cooper...it looks like an artificial heart and you need midget hands to be able to work in there. 3 1 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted December 1, 2019 Super User Posted December 1, 2019 Not to brand jab, but I had a bad battery in my '16 Ram 2500 and was able to change both of them out in about 5 minutes. We bought an '04 GMC Sierra for my daughter (new driver) and now I'm hoping that was before they made it hard for DIY's since I just presumed that would be the case. Quote
lo n slo Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 we once owned a Chrysler Sebring. you had to turn the wheel hard to the right, remove a panel from inside the wheel well, just to get to the battery. my dad once owned a Buick Lucerne. you had to pull out the back seat in order to get to the battery. 1 Quote
