Does a Zoom SuperFluke make a good trailer for a SwimJig or does the split belly hurt it ?

Because of the big slit in a super fluke (and not a solid body to run a hook through) I don't think you can use it as you are intending.

A weightless  super fluke is my go to bait. With that being said, I do not use it on a swim jig.

It has very little action on its own. A paddletail, curly tail or craw style bait is what I use on swim jigs.

you can but they aren't that good.  The swimming fluke works ok but I prefer a bulkier trailer on mine and will usually use a craw of some sort turned vertical or a solid body paddle tail swimbait.

I use the Zoom Fluke as a trailer on Chatterbaits but for some reason never put one on a swim jig but I am sure it would work. It gives the bait a unique action...I rig the flukes upside down when rigging them as a trailer. I actually rig all my swimbaits upside down as well. Seems to work better for me.

 

I fish the Fluke on Open Jigheads which would essentially be a swim jig without the trailer, I am sure it would look good while sinking and pausing. I experiment with all types of trailers, sometimes I have good results rigging a straight tail worm, so never hurts to give fish a new look.

The original fluke doesn’t have the split in the belly like the super fluke. I use them on chatterbaits

+1 ... A Fluke does not have enough action of it's own on a swim jig to be effective (unless water temp is extremely cold when nothing much has any action - however a super fluke on a chatter bait is money ! Take some scissors and thin / trim down the belly of the super fluke to make it more streamlined and you will have yourself a great chatter bait trailer . For a swim jig you are looking at trailers such as a grub (single or double tail) , a boot tail / paddle tail or a craw used as a trailer . BPS , Strike King , Keitech , etc. have small paddle tail swim baits in that ideal 3.75" ~ 4" range ideal as a trailer for most swim jigs . For longer 4.25" to 5" swim baits cut off 1" to 1.5" off of the nose to get down to that approx. 3.75" trailer length . Shorter trailers in the 3.5" range can be used but you will want to trim the skirt length back on the swim jig just beyond the hook so the trailer action is not impeded by too long of a skirt . There are times when a shorter , finesse trailer on a swim jig with the skirt trimmed back  is ideal but more often than not most guys are using a little longer , more stout swim bait and taking approx. an  inch off the nose used as a trailer on the typical swim jig ... Hope this helps !

I like using a fluke on a chatterbait and on underspins. The regular 4" fluke, not the super fluke, the super fluke is great as a regular soft jerkbait but for trailers use the regular fluke without the belly split.

+1 ... Another great option ! Sadly , I am finding the regular Fluke not as readily available nowadays (locally) as big stores have more and more competition for shelf space for fluke style baits and especially small swim baits . On - line ordering is always an option for sure .

I’m sure it varies from store to store but wal mart academy and DSG all have The originals in my area

Our local stores never have them, plus the prices are always inflated vs cabelas who has them for 2.49 always.

Weird I saw them at Bass Pro for $5ish and Walmart 2.49

That's strange, I know cabelas advertises them as every day low price 2.49. I fished them a ton this year and had to fill tackle boxes a few times. Our in store walmarts have very poor selection for color and are atleast a dollar more a pack.

I have tried but the slit prevents it from staying on well.  Plus there's very little action so except for bulk and maybe for profile, it isn't the ideal trailer.
