Hey guys! I’m new here So if I mess up my post somehow let me know! Long story short I am mainly a bank beater when it comes to fishing. However I have some friends who take me out fishing for walleye. I’d like to purchase either a slabbing rod or bottom bouncer rod but can’t decide which one. Is there a good rod that would work for both? I’ve acquired a taste for fenwick rods. Thanks in advance!!

What's a "slabbing" rod?

Slabbing is jigging spoons for walleye.

Never fished for walleye so can't help you there.  I am a fan of Fenwick myself.  Have older Elite Tech, HMG, Smallmouth, Aetos and OG Techna AV models.  Personally feel you get good value for your money.  If Mr. Franco can't recommend a rod, I sure as heck ain't going to try.  :D

I just have one as of now. An elite tech walleye. I heard they started making them in place as the smallmouth but idk if that’s true. I actually snapped it in half on a small mouth lol and they had me a new one in leas then a week!

The only rods I have ever broken were my fault, but fair enough. In that case I would recommend the Diawa Tatula, Megabass Levante, or Dobyns Sierra.

I really like the Cabela’s Prodigy walleye rods ($99.99).   Fishes well beyond that price range.  I also like the St. Croix Eyecon and Fenwick HMG in that price range.   All around that $100 or so.  Living in Minnesota, I have fished quite a bit for walleye.  Actually heading up to Red Lake to catch walleye through the ice in 3 days.  Yes I said it..............ICE!!!

I’ve been looking into at croix as well. One of my walleye fishing buddies is all about them and I like all his stuff! Do you think there is a good action that would work for trolling and slabbing or should I just get one rod for one purpose? I’m hoping to get on some ice this year. I’m in Nebraska and so far not much of that yet lol good luck on your trip though!!

Thanks.  I think I would get the 6’6” medium fast.  I am not sure how heavy your spoon is however.  St. Croix Rods usually run a little stiffer than their rating as well.  I have a 6’3” medium light for my vertical jigging rod for walleye.  But we use a lot of 1/4 oz. jigs for that technique.

Good luck to you.   Come up to Minnesota and hit the ice this year.  It is looking to be a cold winter.  Yuck
