Super User Columbia Craw Posted November 23, 2019 Super User Posted November 23, 2019 I went with a friend to see Midway. I'm a WWII history buff so this was a must see. It was really good. You have to see it. Another flick, "1917" will be out in December. That will be a must see. 1 Quote
DanielG Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 I also saw it when it came out. Almost didn't because half the reviews were iffy. But, it is a good movie. It's more of a war action movie rather than a docudrama. So, if you're looking for lots of flying and sailing action in war, this is it. Definitely edge of the seat stuff most of the way through. The action effects are off the charts. Maybe you saw the previews on TV. The whole movie is like that. Lotsafun and an appreciation of some of the stuff these guys endured for love of country. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted November 25, 2019 Super User Posted November 25, 2019 I saw the one with Charlton Heston from the late 70s -or early 80s. I’m a ww2 and civil war buff. I’m much more interested in the pacific theatre of ww2 than the other theatres .Had an uncle that was in the navy in the South Pacific then , so maybe that’s part of the reason why. Couldnt tell you the last time I went to a movie , but I’d like to see that one before long. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted November 25, 2019 Super User Posted November 25, 2019 I'm such a huge fan of the 1976 version of Midway (Henry Fonda/Charlton Heston/James Coburn/Glenn Ford, Hal Halbrook, etc, etc) that I'm afraid if the new version is anything remotely like the 2001 take on Pearl Harbor, it'll make me want to throw up in some tin foil and eat it. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted November 27, 2019 Super User Posted November 27, 2019 I liked the Pearl Harbor movie with Ben affleck. Thought it had good effects and seemed historically accurate for the most part... I also liked Tora, Tora, Tora. From the late 70s. Quote
