Looking for recommendations for a heavy jig, light to med punch rod. Would like to do both with 1 rod. Middle of the road in quality. Thanks.

Being a contact bait rod you want as much as you can afford. What's your total budget including the well if it's a really good deal budget? NRX 894 is considered the ultimate 1/2oz to 3/4 jig rod, which I consider heavy. You can get them used in the winter for 350. They retail at 600. I plan to get one of these and an 893 before spring. I already have the Alderbaran50 and the Batham mgl for them. I cant wait for spring!

Dobyns XP 744/745 will be an acceptable $200 rod which I would choose in that price range. You have literally a mountain of choices that would be good for this price range.

Dobyns Fury 735 would fit the bill perfectly. Middle of the road rod, but super nice.

Have you tried an aldebaran on the 893? I personally didn't like it and switched to a bantam mgl. Even with a bantam mgl it still balances about 3/4 of an inch in front of the locking nut.

Middle of the road varies widely on the road. The fury Is not the middle of the road when the high end of the road is the nrx. Often price is a good metric on rod suggestions from the op

Define middle of the road and weights you'd like to use.

Currently have a NRX 893 and 894 Both JWR. The Aldebaran was to light so I bought a Chronarch MGL. The 94 has a Bantam MGL. Both reels balance those rods very well. Doubt  I would ever throw any jigs heavyer then 3/4 oz. think that’s pushing it on the 894. Guess I’m looking more for a pitch/punch rod for 3/4 to 1.5 oz tungsten/creature baits. Would like to try and keep cost to 300 or less. Don’t take long to spend a couple bills on a couple nice rods and reels. Currently have the NRX 893, 894 and a 873 CCR. Also have a GLX MBR 843 and 844. This pretty much covers everything for me except the rod I’m looking for.

You can get a fully warrantied refurbished Dobyns Extreme DX795 Flip N Punch for $240.00.  I've had mine for seven years. Excellent rod.

Been looking at that rod very hard. Looks like the leading candidate as of right now. There is 2 listed on the refurbished Dobyns page now. Also, I would think they would be discounted for black Friday.

If I knew middle of the road included Dobyns 795, I would have recommended it. I got one this year. Awesome rod.  It is not a light punch rod though. It can handle any slop.

Ok, upper middle of the road. What would be some suggestions for a lighter (then 795) rod? Thanks.

St Croix legend elite EC711HMF. I can get 1 of these for a very good deal, ( a little more then a refurbished 795) to much stick?

Your rods in action. Cheap rage version.  Same specs as the legend.   Not designed as stout as Dobyns 795. Imo  St. Croix is more moderate. Imo.   I preferred Dobyns in grass lakes.  It is faster and pops jig through much better on long casts in milfoil.  You can see deep moderate bend of croix in first video.   It pins them.  American vs Chinese craftsmanship.  Two good warranties but I believe St. croix warranty is superior, but haven’t studied it..  The Legend should be higher quality.

Tatula Elite 7'6 Flippin AGS rod. It's really light, and has a soft tip for a heavy/fast blank.

ALX Ikos Hammer 7-3 is the rod I do these exact things with. 1/2-3/4 oz jigs and punch with 3/4-1 oz weights.

So I swung for the fences and purchased a Steez AGS 7'6"H. Some great information and price at Tackle Trap sealed the deal. I didn't have a reel for such a rod so I bought a Daiwa Steez A TW 1016SH. The 894 is gone and the 873 is going. The new steez will fill the roll of 1/2 to 1 1/4oz bottom contact needs. Thanks for everyone's suggestions
