I stopped in to BPS today and spoke with one of the staff who I regularly see on the local lakes.  He said the black friday sale is expected to be phenomanal on the Johnny Morris rod and reel combos.  He hinted the platinum series bought as a combo $179 + $179 may be around $225.  Does anyone have any insight on the rods and reels.  He said he has even tried to break the pro qualifiers and carbonlites while flipping fish into the boat and never had one break.  He said 2 yrs ago he tried the platinum series and said it was on par with his friends higher end rods $250 - $350 as far as sensitivity.  Thanks for any input or suggestions. I'm looking to upgrade my gear and am looking to make my purchase during Black Friday weekend when almost all companies with have there merchandise discounted 20 - 30%.

I think there is a flyer out that has those on sale, I want to say for $119 each.

Johnny Morris rod

I used one many years ago. My son is still using the same rod, no complaints.

From what I’ve been told by a few guides I trust, their Platinum Signature rods are very underrated.

i have a couple of the casting reels, and they're very good reels.  the rods i haven't used, i'm not wild about the acs seats.

i'm pretty sure the spinning reels are daiwa bg's made to bps' color scheme.

I own several Johnny Morris platinum reels.  They are great, but I change out their bearings with orange seal boca bearings and it’s easy to do.  The only down side is that they are a little heavier than say the shimano, Lews, or Diana.

I personally do not care for their rods.  IMHO they a little stiff for their action.

I have signature series and patriots. All of them are great rods. I would put them up against any rods out there.

I am on a Carbonlite budget, but after handling a Platinum a few weeks ago, I am going to go for the sale on the rod.  I thought my Carbonlites are light, but the Platinum feels even lighter.  I notice that Edwin Evers fishes them a lot, but of course BPS sponsors him, so they are no doubt free to him.

I thought that also, their rods are stiff for the rating..

I have the flyer....$119.97 for the rod, $124.97 for the bait caster, $69.97 for the spinning reel.

Full price Online.  Do you need a flier to get the special price?

Sale starts the 27th - so a few days yet.

I only have a couple of the carbonlite rods but they are great. There pretty light sensitive and really tough. I would have no problem having a full line up of them with  currado’s.  Sorry not really relevant.

So could I purchase the medium power if I’m looking for a mh ?

Check them out. See what weight range the medium action takes.  If it matches what you’re fishing, I would purchase the Medium action.  I would also suggest bend the tip and check out the action to see if it’s not too stiff.  I think the vast majority of their actions are fast.

And bring a piece of line long enough to run from the handle through the guides and back out to your other hand. This will give you a better evaluation of the rod action and bend.

Will do. I’ve spoke with a few guys I trust and all have experience with the BPS JM line of rods. The consensus is the carbonlite and above fish above their price point. They also said most guys fishing them are happy with their performance and therefore not on forums blogging about them. One old timer said “you could be fishing instead of worrying about what rod is the best for you”. Guess big picture he’s right.
