Ski213 Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 Just as the title says. Need advice. I don’t have any kids of my own but wanting to help with Christmas for a 6 yr old who loves fishing. Maybe a little spinning setup, maybe closed face reel? Hooks and bobbers? Im kind of lost when it comes to that age group. Any suggestions are much appreciated. 1 Quote
Super User Scott F Posted November 19, 2019 Super User Posted November 19, 2019 I’m sure there are dads out there who have more experience, I’ve found that a small tackle box and a few colorful crank baits (without hooks) for the time being, will thrill the kid. Just like us adults, he’ll have a ball playing with the box and baits until he actually gets to use them. Crank baits will fire his imagination more than hooks and bobbers. 4 Quote

That’s a great idea with the hookless crankbaits. I really appreciate it. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 19, 2019 Global Moderator Posted November 19, 2019 Agree with the small tackle box. I got my son one this year and filled it with assorted plastics, bobbers, and a few little baits and he loves taking the trays out and looking at all his lures. The whole thing ran me less than $10 but he's proud of it. 1 Quote
Ski213 Posted November 20, 2019 Author Posted November 20, 2019 Thanks guys! Great ideas. I’m gonna set him up with a little tackle box and a new rod and reel as he apparently he broke the one he had last year. Ive never actually met the kid so it makes it tough to gauge what he’s after. I don’t think his guardian is a fisherman so I don’t think he knows either. Just knows little guy loves to fish. 2 Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted November 20, 2019 Super User Posted November 20, 2019 Good for you...I have done this a number of times and it brings joy for sure. Usually it's a a ramp I frequent and ....well....you'll see. Well done Even the young ones like to look at all the tackle...whether they use it or not.... 2 Quote
