what size ned rig jig hook size do you guys use with finesse trd? it seems to me most jigs have hooks that are to small. does this cause less hookups or fish lost in a fight? what do you guys use?

I am not a fan of small hooks on most baits.

A ned rig is the one exception. if I am using a ned rig it is on light finesse equipment.

I use the standard z-man shroomz head. I beleive it has a #4 hook.

it may seem too small, but a larger hook affects the action of the bait.

the key to using the small hooks is taking your time fighting the fish. If you try to horse a fish, it will often pull free.

I was wrong the shroomz has a #2 hook

The Z Man Shroomz jig heads in 1/16oz are #2, perfect size for the TRD.

I prefer the bigger TRD -

still use lighter gear but the slightly larger presentation seems to target the bigger brown bass I'm looking for.

I use two head interchangeably - both in the 1/0 size.

All of the ones that I have purchased have had a #2 hook.  I have tried #2, #1, and 1/0.  I bought 1000 1/0 gammy hooks from Shorty’s Hook Sales and that is all I have used for the last 2 years.

I use my Morel head.  I offer size 1 and 1/0(Morel XL).  These are built with Owner hooks.Morel.thumb.jpg.8be0cf5ad0ded8eb2a2c223ac20c5940.jpg

The 1 isn't to small for a 2.75 inch trd?

Its what I use.  I do have the xl which is the 1/0 if you would like bigger.    I typically use the XL when I go into heavier weights 3/16-1/4

I prefer a #2 when I can find them.  The small size of the lure mean that most an bass will be hooked inside the mouth and the smaller hooks snag so so much less.  I have used down to #4 but you really need to pay a lot of attention to your drag with hooks that thin.

I pour mine on a #2, which is perfect IMO. I've landed flatheads over 20lbs on that head with no issues. The material of the bait is so soft that it collapses when a fish bites, so hookups aren't an issue. I think the bigger hook causes more issues than it fixes by snagging more and making the bait more rigid and reducing the subtle action they have.

I use size 1 and 1/0 on 1/16, 5/16, and sometime 1/8oz heads.
