Pfisher Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 I just can't seem to get comfortable with the GLX baitcaster reel seats so may sell them. I have a couple of tubes they came in and normally use USPS Priority but can use UPS. What is a normal rod shipping cost. I always insure my shipments also. Quote
onenutinthewater Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 $13-$30 from my experience depending on where in the country it is going. Quote
GReb Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 USPS priority is the way to go but they have a certain dimension requirement. A 7’ rod will fit if the right person measures it. I’ve had to try several different post offices to get it to work before but its usually around $15 Quote
mrpao Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 Usually around $15 give or take a little by priority mail. But most of the time there is a balloon rate for being over sized. Usually also around $15. But dont forget to insure it because rods can easily get damaged. Quote
waymont Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 I have never been able to use the USPS to ship a rod over 6'6", and have it cost under $40.00. I only use FedEx these days because it's always $32.00. That is the cheapest I have ever been able to ship a rod over 6'6". I would love to hear how to ship a rod over 6'6" via USPS for $15.00. I live in Chicago and it it's going west of the Mississippi add $10.00, yes to $50.00 via USPS. Quote

Every rod I ship is at least $30+++ best to try and sell local if possible. Lots of times if a sportsman club is having a sale or flea mkts. 1 Quote
18Steel Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 My cousin had a custom salt water rod built for my son and used Fed Ex to ship. The rod tip come Broeker off as it looked like they tried to cram into a shorter box. It took for ever for him to get reimbursed and was bit of a hassle. Just my experience with Fed Ex but it could have just been that particular store. Quote
TNReb Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 I have shipped several rods recently, all via USPS Priority. None cost more than $15. All were in a round cylinder. Make sure to cut the cylinder as short as you can and still safely pack the rod. I had one a couple of weeks ago to mail from TN to PA. It was going to be over $110. I said no way... can't be. She checked it multiple times, and it was showing the same price. I said "what if it's 3 inches shorter?". That dropped it to $14. Made no sense to me, but I left and trimmed the tube down. Quote

Priority Mail over size doesn’t kick in until after 8’ on a 3” tube. Quote

I’m not saying they know what they are doing. 6 hours ago, TNReb said: I have shipped several rods recently, all via USPS Priority. None cost more than $15. All were in a round cylinder. How long was the tube before and after you trimmed it? Quote
GReb Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 Last rod I shipped was 7’ and it cost $14 priority to ship from MS to NY The size limit is 108 inches combined length and girth Quote
Pfisher Posted November 18, 2019 Author Posted November 18, 2019 Thanks guys..... I have had very good luck with claims through USPS and not so much with the others. I prefer them so I'll give that a shot first. Quote
