As this 2nd week of March comes to a close,

warmer temps, wind & rain seem to be dominating the local forecast.

We've seen a significant snow loss recently with more & more bare ground appearing daily.

Lakes are still iced over but I Like where this is trending . . .

My projected open water date is 34 days away.

There was a lot of ice still left when I was there last week- good luck!  We are clear finally down here but still holding off a week or so before I get my boat out...mostly because my buddy has his ready to go already :)

I drove by my local smallie lake and as I had suspected it still has ice on it. I’d say it’s about 40% open, and of course the ice is in front of the launch so even if I wanted to go out there I couldn’t. The bright side the ice appears to be on its last leg and I’d guess gone in a few days.

Seems this area is in a sort of suspended animation.

Not getting worse but not really getting any better either.

Better being- overtly obvious conditions that promote open water.

We woke up this morning to a dusting on the ground and skim ice on the lake, it’ll be gone by the end of the day but still a reminder that this is still Michigan and Mother Nature is still in control.

My favorite nickname for one of those big ol’ fat bronzebacks is “Chunk Norris!”  ?

Now they're calling for even higher temps.  It will drop back down below freezing by Saturday morning.

Yup Friday morning is supposed to be around 60, by Friday evening low to mid 30’s.

Tonight is the vernal (spring) equinox.

Perhaps more importantly and in tune with the title of this thread, it's 40 degrees and RAINING at 9 PM.

We had low 40s and rain much of the day. Really pounded the snow-pack. Have to see what it did to the ice on the lake the next day or so.

Last Thursday it was almost 70 here.  Now it's snowing out side.  This is nuts.

Took a drive down to the town docks yesterday ( Georgian Bay in Parry Sound). There’s still a bit of ice out there, but it’s open at the river and I can see a fair bit of open water a couple miles out in the bay, which means it’ll likely be all open in about two weeks. I’m bringing the boat down from my shop/winter storage next weekend and into my heated garage so I can start loading up and sitting in it at night, dreaming of a spring trout fish!

Another blessing and a curse. I’m a utility locator so we will continue to work which is good. The downside is I’m working, so I can’t fish on our open lake. Trust me I’m thankful it’s business as usual for us. But I wish...

We're continuing to trend is a very positive direction; on multiple fronts.
