MGF Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 We're ice free here. It's been in the 40's and 50's but we got some rain and cold with blowing snow today. I guess I'm going to get out someplace this weekend. My son is driving up and he wants to fish. I've kind of become more of a "fair weather" angle over the years. I catch a lot of fish in August when it's not cold outside. LOL Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted March 6, 2020 Super User Posted March 6, 2020 Well I was off in my prediction by several weeks..at least for several of the small ponds around me...I'll get out this weekend it's supposed to get into the upper 60s Saturday and Sunday 1 Quote

Super User jimmyjoe Posted March 7, 2020 Super User Posted March 7, 2020   You guys talk about weather in the short run, but do you ever have any interest in weather in the longer run? I visit this page regularly. If you use the first set of pages or scroll down further, it can be interesting. I like to compare what it said in other years to what really happened. The "EC" areas can really bounce around either way.     jj    https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/site_index.shtml 1 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted March 9, 2020 Global Moderator Posted March 9, 2020 Came home to this nice surprise. We’re heading in the right direction. Warm temps, rain tonight, and breezy the next few days should eat a lot more. Unfortunately the overnight lows in the upper 20’s will slow the melt.  No fishing this weekend.  3 Quote
Michigander Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 If this 40-50 degree rain keeps up, the ice will be gone soon on the lakes in central Michigan. ? 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 10, 2020 Author Super User Posted March 10, 2020 Been raining all day here too. Still is I think. While the next few nights will be right at or just below freezing, forecast for the end of this week looks warmer again. Fingers crossed. A-Jay 1 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted March 10, 2020 Global Moderator Posted March 10, 2020 I spy a lake that appears to be completely open. It’s a private lake though.  The ice out report from the wife states the main part of our lake is open. Too bad the boat launch still has ice. Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted March 10, 2020 Global Moderator Posted March 10, 2020 Just got home. The south side of the lake is still iced which is to be expected. The little ‘bay’ where the launch is, still has ice, so no launching. I can see the G3 getting wet this weekend....maybe.  6poundbass got home from school and was already looking for a spot to wet a line. The kid is hooked on fishing.   5 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted March 11, 2020 Global Moderator Posted March 11, 2020 Just got home and all that’s left is this iceberg and the frozen bay/cove where the launch is.   5 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 11, 2020 Super User Posted March 11, 2020 Ran an errand that took me past several of the bays and smaller lakes of the Minnetonka 'group'. Ice is already darkening in spots and there's a bit of open water (1'-2') along a number of the shorelines. Â We may have an early ice-out this year. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 11, 2020 Author Super User Posted March 11, 2020 I checked local Lake Menderchuck yesterday. Still locked up. A-Jay 2 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted March 12, 2020 Author Super User Posted March 12, 2020 As this 2nd week of March comes to a close, warmer temps, wind & rain seem to be dominating the local forecast. We've seen a significant snow loss recently with more & more bare ground appearing daily.  Lakes are still iced over but I Like where this is trending . . .  My projected open water date is 34 days away.  A-Jay 2 Quote
Dangerfield Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 Up here, it's looking like we might get out the 2nd week of April 1 Quote

Come to the southern part of the state. ~75% of the lakes and ponds I fish in are open. There was a guy trolling the ice edge for trout in Massabesic from Claire's Landing this past weekend. Kingston Lake has also been open for a week or so. 1 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted March 12, 2020 Super User Posted March 12, 2020 I am planning my first outing of the year next week. My local pond is ice free so I try for some Perch. Â If I hit the river it will be for casting practice. the waters are super cold with all the ice run-off from the mountains. 2 Quote
