I have been practicing with an old quantum flipping/pitching  441 reel.  the reel has always been comfortable in my haand an am wondering what type of rod should I get?  I have an old pistol grip Berkely rod but am thinking a 7 foot meium heavy...any thoughts?

Any medium heavy rod of at least 7'+, there are dozens on the market.

 

How much ya wanna spend?

7-foot medium heavy with a fast action tip.

 

Take the reel to your local tackle shop and put it on a few rods to see how it fits, feels, and balances.

 

This will give you a good idea of which rod will feel the best.

 

Do not look at the rod's prices. Do this as a "price blindfold test." Then rank the best feeling rods from top to bottom along with their prices.

 

Let us know which rods you liked best and which one you purchased.

Thank-You for giving me some good ideas.  I figured 7 to 7'6" to be a good start.
