Bait casting Advice Needed

Hello,

 

First post but long time lurker. I’ve been out of the fishing game for many years but finally decided to get back into it.

 

i am looking for help in purchasing only one bait casting setup that will do most types of bass fishing well, but right now, I mainly focus on only crankbaits, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and buzzbaits.

Since I only want to have one setup, I don’t have a budget for it. What would a good combo be?

Reel - 7.1:1 to 7.5:1 - I'm a fan of Diawa and Pflueger brands. I'd suggest one with an aluminum frame, so your starting price would be about $100 for a Diawa CA-80 or $120 for a Diawa Fuego-CT.

 

Rod - Medium Heavy in either Fast or Moderate-Fast. I've been happy with my Diawa Aird-X which runs about $55, but for a MF action you'd have to move up the Tatula-XT, starting price is around $100 again.

Shimano Antares DC MD on a Shimano G Loomis Conquest 7' MH 843C MBR

 

Should be able to step in to that for about $1,300

St. Croix Avid 7' Medium Fast and a Shimano Curado K.  This set up should do just about everything.  It's not the best for crankbaits but it will get the job done.

Check out sales at BPS for rod and reel combos. That’s what I did when I got my first rods and reels. It’s been years since I did it, but you may be able to get a good reel and a decent rod. Then you can branch out from there as you upgrade your setups.

  Get a casting rod, MH/MF or MH/M.  Mojo basss MH/MF, Mojo glass MH, Fritts Perfect Cranker, some of the Shimano or Daiwa glass or composite rods. Maybe the St.Croix Avid MH/M. Those are the kind of rods that those four things do best with. As for a reel, you're the person who will be using it constantly, so get one that is comfortable for you and has a reputation for longevity. jj

You asked this kind of question from interweb you’d better prepare for 1000 of combos.

If you serious about buying only one setup, I would just hit local mom&pop store and see what available for you to at least touch and feel. Talk to them ask them for some recommendations. You might pay a little bit higher price compare to online or Mega Store but at least you would gain some knowledges and support local.

Yup.  Thousands. 

 

Rods: ALX Zolo Deputy or Toadface.  Shimano Expride 7'2" MHF or 6'10" MF.  Megabass Orochii XX Extreme Mission Type F, Diablo Spec R or Flat Side Special, GLoomis GLX 843 MBR or 844 MBR, Daiwa Steez SVS AGS 7'2" MHR...and this isn't even the tip of the iceberg. 

 

Reels:  Shimano Bantam MGL, Chronarch MGL or 150G, or Metanium MGL, Daiwa Steez of any flavor, Zillion or one of the Tatulas, Lew's Pro-Ti SLP or Tournament Pro LFS, Okuma Helios SX...and I haven't even gotten rolling yet. 

 

The fishing world is your oyster.  A wide open budget gives you more options than you can look at during a week of researching several hours a day.  Hopefully you have a few nearby stores where you can handle a ton of gear.  I've bought almost all my gear sight unseen.  I've depended on reviews and opinions of posters on here and a couple other forums.  Lucky for me I am not as picky as some and easily satisfied.  (Or maybe not so lucky as I like just about every reel so I am not limited to one brand.)
