i'm wanting a compact bait like the hidden weight heads, but wanting something that will dive when i kill it. would the 1'2oz weight on a 1/4oz bait frame work, or would it have more problems than it's worth?

thanks

The answer to your question is yes, you can pour a 1/2oz head on a smaller wire form. I've done that for a long time, I don't like the hidden weight spinnerbait because it falls flat. I actually had a custom mold made for hidden weight spinnerbaits when they started getting popular, I should have got one and fished with it before having the mold made. I have long since sold the mold so now I make a compact bait by making smaller wire forms and pouring heavier heads on them. You need to be aware of the blade size and spacing when doing this because there won't be a lot of room if you use standard size blades for a 1/2oz bait.

good to know that it works out fine. i like the hidden weight baits, but i'm wanting something that dives when i kill it.

as far as blade size, i downsize from what is available on most baits you can buy. even on standard size 1/2oz i use a 3.5 on the shaft and 4 on the swivel. i fish relatively clear water, and just feel they get bit more.  i like catching big fish, but i focus more on getting bit period. i don't fish tournaments, so i'm more worried about having fun the 1 day a week i get to go fishing.

cadman is making them for me.

allen you use the camo wire a lot don't you? i have some of the lpo heads with that wire, and thought about maybe getting them to make up some with that wire, but i think i would like .035 in 1/4oz frame size and they don't offer that.  the .032 may be a too springy.

The camo wire is the new super stainless (Why it is brown is beyond me?) and only comes in .035 that I am aware of. I like it to match darker baits but the regular silver super stainless is my favorite.
