I know the Citica is older tech.  I have one and really like it.  What about the Citica compared to SLX XT?

By older tech do you mean the Citica 200E, which are really fine reels.  And they are a 200 size where the SLX is much smaller and the size of the Curado 70 with the same spool capacity, which is a lot less than the Citica 200.  I have both and would say the Citica 200E, but I have mine with ABEC bearings and upgraded drag washers.  I also like to polish internal componants, so it may not be a totally fair comparison.  I do believe overall the Citica is a little sturdier reel, but I have enjoyed worm fishing with the SLX and it has never failed.   Personal preference I guess.

He probably means the  Citica I which is on clearance everywhere, but yeah if you want a smaller reel and do not need the extra line capacity get the SLX XT, otherwise the Citica is probably the better reel.

Citica has x ship which I think having pinion support is an important factor all things else considered equal

It's the Citica that is on sale at TW:  CI200I

I’m thinking Black Friday, 20% off at TW.  Both of those reels will be about $100

I had the slx xt for flipping , kept my citica i for flipping , it's the better reel imo.

If you care about weight and size of reel get SLX, if you gonna buy citica I’d rather spend a little more and get the K.

K got micro module gear.

K got bearing support main shaft

K got newest SVS brake (white), a lot better and quieter than the one come with i (red, this is a known problem with the I series, after a while you would hear whirling sound when cast, easy fix with a little oil around brake drum but annoying)

Note: one thing though my Curado i is super smooth and no grinding issue like this new Curado even from a heavy use. I use my 200ipg for medium size 2oz swimbait lure and heavy spinner bait.

my first search on eBay come up with K for 140.

I'd go with the K for about $15 bucks more on eBay. You will not be disappointed in the few extra bucks spent.

Surprised no one has mentioned the plastic worm gear on the SLX. It may or may not be a longevity issue. Has no place on a $100 reel imo.

Please educate me here what you mean? While I am sure you are correct I don't understand.

I’ve recently serviced some SLX reels and the level wind worm gears looks and feels like a hard plastic material. Surprised me on an otherwise decent looking reel at $100. May not be an issue but made me pause.

Curado 70 also come with plastic worm gear, a lot of ppl worried when first came out but so far i’ve Heard of any problem yet. I use mine 70s pretty hard or jerkbait rod and frog. I don’t remember if the K is also plastic, only fish a few hours before I sold it, but I believe it is as well.

“Plastic” isn’t the dirty word it’s made out to be, lots of technological advances in the field. Just an observation. One could make the argument I suppose that it might be easier on the pawl than an inexpensive metal alloy. Time will tell as it always does.

I’m sure Shimano viewed it as an area to cut cost and weight without sacrificing performance. The replacement part is $2.79 on Shimano’s site compared to $7.50 to the alloy work on the Core. Normally I’m not a fan of plastic but I’m sure it will be the future. Same with gun manufactures using MIM parts
