ThatFishingGuy Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 I am maybe fishing a little for-fun club tournament this weekend - fall fishing is generally my weakest season, and it's a body of water I haven't fished before, so I'm looking for advice! What places would you target and what kind of baits would you throw? My instincts say to focus on the drop offs on the northern end or maybe the flat areas on the southern end where bass might be chasing schools of bait fish, but I'd love some advice! PS: the body of water is about 40 acres. One picture is a topo map of the lake, the other is this weeks weather. Sorry if this is in the wrong section too! Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted November 6, 2019 Super User Posted November 6, 2019 What with all the roads & such, kinda looks like a sub-division lake. That so? Any houses/ docks on the lake? How deep is the lake? Most guys, if they have a dock on a lake can't resist planting a brush pile, generally within an easy cast of their lawn chairs. If that lake has docks, that is where I'd start looking first. Where is this lake? That might help recognizing seasonal patterns. What is the lake stocked with? What is the primary forage? How much vegetation in the lake & what kind? The more information that you can offer, the more informed opinions you'll get back. What kind of boat do you have? My boat is an 18' Lowe, fairly heavy aluminum and a 12 mph wind, like you're allegedly going to have on Sunday, would blow my boat around quite a bit. If your boat is smaller, you will get blown around more. The weather print out looks like one from Weather.com. In my experiences, they have been known to fib about wind speeds often. The number that they print seems tol be the "expected average" wind speed and I wouldn't be surprised if it gusts to twice that number or more. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted November 6, 2019 Super User Posted November 6, 2019 40 acres and the deepest the lake gets is 8 feet? Given those temperatures and winds, I'm going to be chucking a spinnerbait and buzzbait. Give the lake is that small, you could easily fish the entire lake in an 8 hour day. 2 Quote
JediAmoeba Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 I pulled up the satellite and it looks like the 8' area has a fountain so that could be an interesting area to target. Is it weed choked? There are a few docks on the north side so I would mainly target that side. If you don't hook onto any with the spinnerbait you may want to switch to a jerkbait...of its weedy a fluke and fish it slow. Otherwise a t-rig or even a grub on a ball head. 1 Quote

Apologies, I haven't been to this body of water before so I'm not sure about some of those but I've done a bit of research! First, this is in Delaware. Not sure about vegetation/offshore structure, but there are definitely some docks scattered around and it's 8' at its deepest point (northern point and what someone else pointed out, it looks like there is a fountain in that spot). From what I've found (as far as bait fish) it has crappie, bluegills, sunfish, and perch. And unfortunately, I'm not sure what kind of vessel I'll be fishing from. Thank you for your input! Quote
TriStateBassin106 Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 There looks like some deep spots like ledges, I would try that creek channel in the middle left, maybe some cranks to cover water then slow down with maybe a finesse jig or ned rig. Quote
swhit140 Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 Depends on water temp/vegetation etc. Looking at the possible wind forecast I'd go with spinnerbait, bladed jig, shallow crankbait, Lipless crankbait. Also take some jigs and a couple soft plastics tossing into cover. It can depend if the lake is affected by the wind also. I fish fast to get started to figure a pattern if possible. Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 9, 2019 Super User Posted November 9, 2019 Hope it's a kayak event, no reason to start up the OB! Tom 1 Quote
