Super User FishTank Posted July 10, 2007 Super User Posted July 10, 2007 I was having a slow day and decided to pull out an old favorite of mine, the GYCB 5'' Double Tail Hula Grub. My slow day become an awesome day. I had been using some Senkos, Dingers, and a few Zoom Lizards with only a couple of small ones to show for my effort. The Hula Grub just became the next choice. By the end of the day I had gone through two bags and brought in about 15+ good sized large mouth and small mouth with these things. Has anybody else had success with the Hula Grub? I was truely amazed by this bait. If you have not tried the GYCB Hula Grub, I would highly recommend it. Quote
Stringjam Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Hula Grubs have been lost somewhere down in the ever-changing world of soft plastics fads, but they have been one of my most consistent baits since I started fishing with them years ago. My favorite is still the Bobby Garland DT Hyper Tail Hula. Rigged with a very light weight, they're also one of the killin'est "swim" baits in life. Quote
Bud Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 I agree with you FishTank the Double Tail Hula Grun works here. Try using it weightless . Quote
llPa1nll Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 This has been a mainstay of my fishing for years. I fish these on a light jig rod with a 1/4oz or 3/8 oz football head jig head depending on the depth. Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 10, 2007 Super User Posted July 10, 2007 Skirted double tail grubs are one of those things that were hot back in the early 90 's with the introduction of the Spider Jig and has slowly faded away in the turmoil of new soft plastic baits, just like the Slug-o and the Fat Gitzit were hot in the 80 's, Stringjam knows what I 'm talking about . Old fart ( just like me ) very productive baits ( difficult break old habits ) .... no wonder why I seldomly fish with a senko. : Quote
Tucson Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Great bait! I use the 5" on a 3/8 oz football jig and the 3" on a 1/8 oz ballhead. When the skirt end gets boogered up I trim it off and use the tail part for a trailer. Quote
tritz18 Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Yea I like to fish this weightless and just let it sink to the bottom and if nothing strikes give the rod a small jerk to make it hop off the bottom. Works great, I like white with black spots in it. Good luck Quote
