Up in Western Massachusetts it is 62 out right now at 8:38pm and was 64 a few hours ago. Tomorrow and Monday will both be above 60. I wish some of the lakes were not frozen because this is some of my favorite fishing weather

The honeymoon is about to end for us. We've had it easy since before Christmas but there's growing consensus that we're getting close to experiencing real winter for a while. Except for a couple of cold snaps we made it halfway without too many bumps and bruises.

This winter has been underwhelming for sure.

Mostly mild air temps and well below average snow fall amounts have both contributed to a very tolerable past few months locally.

Really hope this trend continues.

No sense getting all Old Man Winter on us at this point.

Give it up, melt the little that's here and let's get to fishing some open water.

And it's only January, I might need to calm down a little here.

January 19 was when all he-l-l broke loose last year. I’m going to continue enjoying this weather too, but in the back of my mind I’m prepared to cry when reality hits.

That should be about when this hits you - as this is our forecast for the 17th

Friday
Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 27. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.

Yup Friday night into Saturday. We’re looking at 4-6”.

Batten down the hatches - these things hit us then travel East to you

Friday
Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Patchy blowing snow after noon. High near 27. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.
Friday Night
Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Steady temperature around 25. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph becoming south 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

So 6-14 inches before it's all done here.

Maybe @A-Jay might get that much. Down here we are looking at (it changes daily) 2-4 inches. Lake Michigan is the deciding factor, she’ll do what she wants. She can be nice and break up the storm and only give us a couple inches or she can be nasty and really hit us hard with a ton of snow!

Our really bad ice storm they were talking about all last week that put everyone in panic mode didn’t really pan out. We got some ice and about 4000 of us lost power for a few hours but that was it. Most people got rain instead of freezing rain.

As much as I rag on the weather guessers, it has to be hard accurately predicting the weather with that big body of water throwing a wrench in everything.

With a fresh foot or so falling yesterday and over night, along with the blowing & drifting, it's hard to accurately access the actual inch count.

Either way I'm postponing any & all removal operations until Old Man Winter is done having his way with us -

That’s exactly what I’m doing is holding off until it’s all done. Plus I keep looking out the window and see all the snow and my ambition to clear snow goes right down the crapper.

During Big Snow Events here, I usually like to 'get a head start' on it.

Rather relocate a reasonable amount twice than several metric tons at the end.

Besides, hard to know what the further may bring.

But when it's Drifting like this AND still snowing an inch an hour -

Any of that is an exercise in futility as it fills in behind me as fast or faster than I am moving it.

So I'll stand in the window and laugh at it until it's over with.

Well, snow-mageddon didn't happen here...got maybe 3-4". Once the plows come by, got a high-school kid coming over to do my shoveling.

Ya they WAY over hyped this one. Maybe 4 inches here but it is drifting and blowing around today because it’s so windy.

We got a little rain on top, so the surface is 'crunchy'...no blowing around even with the wind.

About 3" of wet snow mixed with freezing rain. The bottoms going to drop tonight with temps below zero. Weather Underground predicts colder than normal temps here now thru April. Such is life

Huh - and AccuWeather is predicting higher than normal for us after a 2-day drop. We may see earlier than average ice-out this year.

Just sayin' what I read today. As far as ice, we might have 1"-2", on inland lakes right now.  Lake Michigan is still free of ice.  There should be 18" of ice on inland water right now.
