Super User MN Fisher Posted January 5, 2020 Super User Posted January 5, 2020 And I gotta be on the road this afternoon Today Mostly cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 37. Windy, with a west northwest wind 20 to 25 mph increasing to 25 to 30 mph. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph. Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted January 5, 2020 Author Global Moderator Posted January 5, 2020 Only flurries for us And strong winds. The extended forecast shows its still going to be above normal temps. 1 Quote

As opposed to at least twice a week if not more during an average hard water period. Not Complaining though. A-Jay 1 Quote
Way north bass guy Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 We’re supposed to get squalls, high winds and up to 12” of snow here by the end of tomorrow, but by the end of the week it’s supposed to be back above freezing and rain so that should melt it back down. It’s weird to see so much bare ground around here for this time of year, but I sure am not complaining. 2 Quote

I will say this, we moved into our new house Jan 18 last year. Up to that point our winter was reminiscent of the one we’re having now. That night we moved we got about 6” of snow. For the next three weeks my son had school only 5 days out of a possible 15, because of snow and the “polar vortex”. We’ll see how this year goes. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted January 5, 2020 Super User Posted January 5, 2020 It's about 55 here, clear, but windy. Figures on a nice weekend I would have my reels out getting cleaned. 1 Quote

I might get out on the water this week depending on how thick the tule fog is ? Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted January 10, 2020 Author Global Moderator Posted January 10, 2020 It’s 45* as I type this, with a high of almost 50 today. The forecast for the next 48 hours says there’s a great potential that we’re in big BIG trouble! Some areas of West Michigan are looking at almost 4” of rain. The Grand River is already flooded. In my neck of the woods we’re looking at close to 3” of rain and 1/2-1” of freezing rain! I’m hoping the temps stay a little warmer than they’re predicting because even a half inch of freezing rain is bad news. The roads won’t be treated because of the rain we’re getting all day today through tonight. We had about 48 hours of a cold snap that had froze the first couple inches of ground, so the rainy will have nowhere to go and the dirt roads could turn into a skating rink. After tonight it’s time to batten down the hatches and not resurface until Monday morning. Hopefully we don’t lose power. Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted January 11, 2020 Author Global Moderator Posted January 11, 2020 We got a ton of rain last night and now we’re getting freezing rain and sleet. Everything is covered in ice and the roads are slick. We’ve got everything we need for today and tomorrow so we’re going to be reclusive for the next 48 hours or so. 1 Quote

Glad you and yours are safe and sound for the duration @12poundbass. A long time ago, those were the conditions that model building would be taking place. Tackle tune-up and playoff football is probably the current option ? 1 Quote

Super User slonezp Posted January 11, 2020 Super User Posted January 11, 2020 For a week they have been predicting 1-3 inches of rain followed by 1/4" of freezing rain, and potentially a foot of snow for today. Well, we got under an inch of rain, no freezing rain, and not even a dusting of snow. Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted January 11, 2020 Author Global Moderator Posted January 11, 2020 We got a ton of rain over night, no snow as of yet, and I’d guess by what’s on the tree by our front door 1/8” of ice. Apparently enough to break a pole somewhere close by and knock power out for 1800 of us. I’m loading the family and dogs up and we’re heading to your place @slonezp. What’s for dinner? Quote

Leftover rack of pork. I'm smoking a ham tomorrow if you can wait a day. Quote

Power loss in the cold weather is my preferred power loss, if I have a choice. Putting a Cooler in the garage with the contents of the fridge takes care of the perishable foods. (Lid Open) As for the freezer in the garage - Large Tupperware buries in the snow is the deal. All of this is a big problem is the power goes out & I'm sweating at all. Well pump down anytime is a problem; we store both drinkable & potable water (to flush with) year round. Fire wood for the wood stove is always on hand. Hope you guys get it back ASAP. A-Jay Quote

A-Jay We’re on well water too. We always have drinking water on hand. I have access to a generator but since it won’t be too long We’ll just tuff it out. I think tonight is a good night for an early bedtime. 1 Quote
