pauldconyers Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 I've got the Garmin Striker 7SV unit on my boat and have the transponder mounted on the back. I find myself going fishing more and more with friends who a lot of times do not have fish finders on their boat and I've been trying to think of a way to take along mine. I couldn't imagine wanting to undo the transponder and mess with wiring each time, though. I came across what Garmin calls their portable fishing kit. Looks like it comes with a nice bag, bracket for the unit, suction-cup mount and foam float for the transducer, battery system for power, and possibly the wiring for the transponder. From what I can TELL it appears it does NOT come with the transponder, is that correct? How much would a second transponder cost? Does anyone have any experience with this setup? Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted October 28, 2019 Super User Posted October 28, 2019 I think you mean transducer, not transponder. A transducer sends and receives sonar pings. A transponder broadcast position, speed, and course information to other ships to help prevent collisions in busy shipping lanes. You should be able to price and buy an extra transducer for your unit on the Garmin website. Quote
redmexican5081 Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 Most side view capable transducers from Garmin are going to run you ~$300. If you are OK with "older" technology, there are quite a few new, unused CV52 transducers that people are offloading for short money because it doesn't have a true downscan crystal and they "upgraded" to the GT52 model when it was put back into production. For a price like that I could pretty much but a new unit... Quote

Go on Garmins site or look on EBay you can find them for less than $100 for your standard transducer, it’ll get you SideVu and DownVu and 2d sonar. Quote
