I hear WebMD and Google have some good info too. This is the attitude the contractors in the thread are talking about. I'm not at your home to fight you, I'm here to help. What I know how to do isn't free though. The knowledge about what will work long term, root causes of issues, what products are out there to solve your issue, that all requires experience that the legit tradesman has paid his dues sweating and bleeding to learn. And someday you are going to be too old and need help. Code requirements are invented and revised by insurance companies. You have a flood or fire that was caused by work you did, or work you paid an unlicensed jack leg did. Or worse, somebody dies, in your family or the family of the person you sold the house to. Who do you think insurance is going to come after if somebody gets hurt or property is damaged? They won't be able to find the jack leg because he knows not to give you his real phone number. Homeowners can do anything they want on their home, if it goes bad you could be out waaaaaay more money than I charge to do the work and stand behind it with my insurance. People without a licence (handymen) can do a lot of things, but big stuff needs to be done by a licence holder, or you could end up loosing everything you own. I've seen some dangerous stuff out there. Be safe, youtube is not a replacement for thousands of hours of training and experience. 1 Quote

I'm a hotel General Manager and my new Marriott was supposed to open at the end of July. As of this morning our target open date is January 15th and we're not even close to getting a CO yet. We were supposed to be breaking ground on a second Marriott property right next door in November and by early summer I was supposed to be running the second property as well. The more delays we have the more the subs are wrecking the hotel. Yesterday I found 62 new doors that need to be replaced and 14 rooms that need to be re-carpeted. Wall damage, furniture damage, and fixture damage is unbelievable. Every day we find even more issues. It feels like we'll never open. Let me guess, whoever picked the contractor went with the lowest bid............. The phrase "you get what you pay for" didn't come to pass by accident. Quote

I work for a company that manages the property. From what I understand, the owner hired our management company after he had hired the contractor. One issue we have is that unemployment in our area is under 2% and with so much work available the subs really don't give a crap whether or not they do a good job because if they get fired there is always another job available. Typical case of ..No Pride in the Tribe...I've done a couple of jobs that about 1/2 through I realized that I underbid, I wound up making very little after paying everyone...Still, I finished the jobs doing my usual best. I was booked for a long time and could have breezed through the job..But..................you never know what the future has in store. Quote

I kept food fresh and beer cold for 15 years until I crippled myself. Now I sell parts to journeyman HVAC/R mechanics. Quote
