Catt, nice fishing gear probably brings in a good price for the dopeheads. Tools, it depends. Either way, they still get pennies on the dollar compared to what it cost, or especially what it's worth to the owner, his own personal stuff I know for a fact there are more pawnshop in Kansas City Mo now than there ever was. Two reasons why: Casinos, and more drug users. They keep the pawn shops thriving 2 Quote
813basstard Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 I take my Yamaha 25 off the boat after every trip (2-3 a week). I’ve been got before and it’s almost the worst feeling in the world.. Sucks my man Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 25, 2019 Super User Posted October 25, 2019 Down here we have public boat launches that have no security & the drug heads know it. Some have gone as far as drilling a hole in your gas tank & draining them. Now ya aint got gas but ya can't put any until you plug a hole. Problem is this launches are fairly remote. Quote

I can count the amount of people I trust in this world on 1 hand minus a few fingers. Stories like this are the reasons why. In my area there have been a rash of car break ins. The thieves are targeting cars in hiking trail parking lots. They sit and watch folks get out of their cars and break in a few minutes after they leave knowing they shouldn't be back for awhile. Leave nothing you don't want stolen outside. Leave nothing visible in your car when parking it. Lock all your doors. Don't make it easy for the thieves and they will pass up your car or house for the next one. My policy has become " out of sight, out of mind". 1 Quote

RB 77 Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 Bottom line is thieves suck. Don't feel too bad, it happens to a lot of people. I once had some one steal a couple BUNGEE CORDS out of the back of my truck. Now that's some petty crap. It's something we all have to deal with on a constant basis with leaving our trucks and trailers behind while we are our fishing often remote locations. I have all but given up hiking in to remote locales now because of this. Even if they don't steal my truck or anything out of it, I now have a $500 broken window to replace. Screw thieves! 2 Quote

It won't stop a thief, but will help put one in jail. Sorry for your loss Trail-cams, Ring doorbell cameras, etc. are great for the fact that they give you piece of mind in having an idea who did the crime. Years ago I had the rear drivers side window of my SUV bashed in. With no video I had no idea who it was that did it. Was it someone looking to steal something? Was it a neighbor that didn't like where I parked? Was it kids playing a prank? I was suspicious of everyone that lived around there until I moved. Not a great feeling to have every time you leave your car. Quote
2tall79 Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 Is your boat insured? I had both my Humminbirds stolen out of my boat while it was parked in the driveway. Insurance covered 100%...no deductible plus the cost of cables, transducers, and installation. The b'terds cut all my cables. Quote
GReb Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 I have Arlo cameras outside and love them. They are affordable and wireless. The batteries last about 6 months between charges. 1080p and really good night vision. You can turn them on and off easily with the app. They start recording with any movement and sends a notification to your phone. You can set off an alarm or talk through them. And the videos are stored on the app and easily emailed or text to the authorities 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 25, 2019 Super User Posted October 25, 2019 California San Jauqine Delta is a world class bass fishery and very high crime area for boat theft and anything left alone in a public parking areas including boat trailers and tow vehicles. SoCal we have to pay to enetered public launches but they provide security so theft isn't as big a problem, it can happen if you don't lock everything up. It's too bad we can't trust our neighbors and enjoy peace and quite while fishing without worry. Tom 2 Quote

The guy was so ticked, we caught him breaking into my Dad's fishing shed. He was trying to steal his better fishing gear and his tackle box to make up for the cash he lost. I knew him since I was born. We would have never suspected. It was a pretty valuable lesson for everyone, including the guy that went to jail for being a sore loser. I read that as "I can recall as a kid my Dad beating a guy with horse shoes." ? 3 Quote
Super User geo g Posted October 26, 2019 Super User Posted October 26, 2019 That is a horrible feeling. All you need is one or two young adults strung out on drugs and things start to happen. I feel for your loss of piece. Quote

Super User N Florida Mike Posted October 27, 2019 Super User Posted October 27, 2019 I told this one awhile back , but it’s appropriate. My g. Daughter convinced me to go to a pawn shop nearby to look at video games. When we got there of course I went to look at the fishing stuff. I had turned to walk away as I looked at the last combo. It was an ultralight which I thought would be perfect for bream. Then I realized... it was my combo! It had been missing for a year or so . Never knew which relative or “ friend “ had taken it. But I was thrilled to get it back for 20$. .I hadn’t reported it stolen , so I probably couldn’t have pressed for an arrest. Now if I could just find that surf rod , hip boots , waders ,coin collection , family heirlooms , WEDDING RINGS.... ? 1 Quote
Rodney Smith Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 Well, it happened to me today. Came back from my morning outing to find my back window smashed out. Stole a nice inflatable PFD, my shore tackle bag full of stuff, and a monogrammed camo storage bag my wife gave me. Being the first guy out on the water might be good for fishing, but it also makes you the easiest target... Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted November 9, 2019 Super User Posted November 9, 2019 Pulled up to the lake last week and started unstrapping the boat around 11:15 pm. A beat up little car pulls up and parks without stopping to get a parking pass. I was midway up the parking lot under the only light and they were between me and the ramp. I back my boat in and pull back up to the closest spot. Being concerned that the two individuals in the car may have plans to B&E my truck, I walked up behind their vehicle and took a picture of the plates with the flash on so they would know without a doubt exactly what I did. They promptly headed out there. 1 Quote
