Looking for some recommendations for hard jerk baits. All of my fishing is from the bank and probably will need shallow ones. Looking for a few that will not break the bank. Water is semi-clear to muddy.

I like the Strike King KVD 300 & 300 Deep.

btw -  Throwing jerkbaits in muddy water can be tough sledding.

So jerk baits are mainly for clear or slightly stained waters.

My most productive shallow jerkbait this year has been the Berkley Cutter Shallow 90+, the yellow perch color specifically. The hooks aren't the best but the bait has a fantastic action and remains fairly high in the water column. I also have a handful Strike Kings, Rapalas and Lucky Craft Flash Pointers (which are my #2s).

If the water is more than mildly muddy, I would throw a crankbait, spinnerbait or chatterbait instead, but in clear water you're good pretty much all year round.

I can only speak for the fishing situations I've encountered.

That said, my jerkbait success seems to always be better when the water is fairly clean with at least 3 ft plus of visibility.  Less than that, I fish something else; usually close to the bottom or available cover.

No problem. Husky Jerks are normally $7 or $8 depending where you shop at so they are on the pricey side. They work great for pike too if you’re into that.

HJs are one of my favorite JBs, but "casts well" isn't one of the reasons why. They tend to tumble quite a bit, even so, I catch a lot of fish on them every year.

well, i sometimes wade the creek and its not super wide so i just want to “pitch” it into smaller spots with logs and stuff for fish to be hiding in. But it doesn’t cast well  distance wise you’re right.

This year I have been using the 6th Sense Provoke 106X in Yellow Perch with great success!  And they don't cost an arm and a leg.

I just got some of the Spro McStick 110's...haven't used them yet but they are definitely quality and cost around $10. They look super sweet too with those "mean" eye's :D.

Nobody says megabass cuz the people using them don't want you throwing them too ?

I own a couple megabass but at 20$+ I get a lil nervous fishing them sometimes. I've caught fish with them but don't throw them where I feel I'm gonna lose them... Which means 2 things 1) they are out of my price range and 2) I'm missing fish.

I like rapala husky jerks and x-raps. I'm confident with them and contrary to the above poster who called them expensive.  They are one of the most inexpensive and productive jerkbaits you can buy.

If money wasn't an object I would be throwing mostly Megabass Vision 110+1's but at $25 per bait I have way too many lakes/ponds around me that have toothy critter in them and could make a $25 jerkbait disappear in a hurry.

I like the Smithwick suspending rattlin rogues. They are fairly cheap and run pretty good right out of the package.

I agree they usually work better in clear water, but around here 3 foot visibility would be considered crystal clear.

Jerkbaits still work well in our stained water when it gets cold.

I just make sure they have rattles and use bright colors like clown or firetiger.

For reasons unknown pearl also seems to work well in dirty water.

One good thing about stained water is color choice becomes less critical. the main thing is finding a highly visible bait.

My favorite jerkbaits are Duo realis,Yozuri, Smithwick rattling rogue, and H2O.

for deeper water I use the KVD deep diver.

I own more H2O. Mainly because they are a lot cheaper. They are advertised as floating, but they suspend just as well as the others.

Megabass is pretty good, but it is expensive if you're buying it outside of Asia.  In my opinion, OSP Asura and Varuna are even better than the Megabass jerkbaits though, however they may be very hard to find.  Yozuri has plenty of cheap jerkbaits.

   1) I fish dirty water.

   2) I fish jerkbaits shallow.

   3) I "snap" my jerkbaits, kinda like walking the dog, more than any other technique. I think it makes them more noticeable to the fish.

   4) I use jerkbaits in spring and fall, but not the heat of summer. I use other stuff for summer.

   5) Bomber Long A lures (13A, 14A and 15A) get me more than all my Rapala jerkbaits put together. Some people look at the Long A as "old fashioned", but it sure gets the job done for me!

As in everything though .... YMMV.    ?   jj

A clown colored Smithwick Rogue is pretty tough to beat in stained water and won't break the bank.

Bomber long a will not break the bank, and if fishing from shore, a floating jerkbait may be a better option of shallow. If you want it to suspend, simply add some suspend dots to the lure to get it to sit a bit under the surface.

The Rapala Jerkbaits are all good, not all that expensive, another good suspender from land that dives shallow is the Max Rap but not sure they still make it. It only dives about a foot or 2 and is a slim body. Yo-zuri also makes a good one.

The Academy Hardbaits as mentioned are hard to beat....The Countdown Rapala is not a bad lure either, sometimes a slow sink is good, or you can just crank it at the depth you want...Its a lure that never gets mentioned but is still one of the best sellers in their line up. I used to fish them from the bank all the time, for some reason I forgot about them as well until just now...
