For anyone living on a farm in the greater Richmond, Virginia, area, my son has to give his Australian/Dutch Shepherd mix 16 month old puppy away.

The dog needs lots of room to run, safely. Great with kids and very loving animal.

Please PM me if you are interested and have a place he can run and be safe.

Thanks

What a beautiful dog...

Yes, and a lot of fun.

Breaks my heart they have to get rid of him.

With both working and no fenced yard it is not fair to the puppy to be locked up all day until they return in the evening.

Looks like my wife and I will keep the dog and maybe take it to dog obedience school to train me on how to handle him.

Will bring him to Richmond the week of November 4th.

But if anyone is interested in him let me know.

Thanks.

Need an update Sam...

Still have Rudy.

My efforts to find a farm failed so the family has to discuss putting him with an Aussie adoption service or taking him to the pound.

Will continue to try to find him a good home where he can run and chase everything around in a safe environment.

We will decide what to do after Thanksgiving.

Good luck Sam...

We found a 200+ acre far north of Charlottesville for Rudy.

Taking him to the farm on Saturday, tomorrow.

Hopefully the people will like him along with his three-month old Aussie.

Will let all know.

Thanks for asking.

Hope things workout.  Sure is a good looking dog.

We had a husky aussie mix and it was high energy, all go and no stop, athletic dog.  We trained her to go on a leash next to me when I road my bike since our daily 5 mile walk would just get her warmed up.  The long bike ride at good pace and a weighted vest was needed to wear her out.

Hey guys, well, I have some great news.

We took Rudy to a 200+ acre plantation north of Charlottesville this Saturday and he met Alex, the farm manager and Dixie, a three month old Aussie.

Rudy took to Alex and Dixie like long lost friends.

Alex is going to take both dogs to herding school as the plantation has chickens, beef cattle, and sheep and they will need both dogs to control the cattle and sheep.

Only sad part is that we did not see any ponds on the plantation but of course it is over 200 acres so maybe a pound is hidden somewhere so I can go fishing when I visit with them in the future.

Our family is very happy for Rudy as he was frustrated living in a city and could not run around. An Aussie needs a "goal" and "specific work responsibilities" to be happy.

Sincerely appreciate everyone's concern and comments.

We will miss Rudy but we know he is extremely happy on the farm.

As a follow up, Rudy and Dixie did not get along as Dixie was very territorial and aggressive to Rudy so I got a call to pick him up.

I contacted #2 on my list as they have 3 acres and have sheep. But they called me on a Friday to come and get him as he was nipping at the adults while protecting the three year old.

I took Rudy to a beautiful 20 acre estate where there were sheep, black angus, and chickens. He was in heaven when he got out of the car.

He looked towards the fence where about 60 sheep were standing and looking at him. He started his "secret crawl" towards them, took off running, and ran directly into the fence. He was OK but seemed to be wondering what a fence is.

They will teach Rudy to herd the sheep.

Hopefully Rudy will live out his days on this estate in northwest Virginia doing what Aussies are supposed to do.

And yes, I miss him. But it is better for him to be on a farm than in a city.
